September 14, 2007

During the week Sept. 17 – 20, all naval installations in the U.S. will participate in Exercise Solid Curtain 2007.

Expect a fairly normal week, except for Thursday, Sept. 20. On that day, between 9 and 11 a.m., exercise events will elevate Force Protection Conditions. This elevation will be maintained for about 12 – 15 hours.

Expect Gates 2 and 3 to close and then reopen after short periods of time (about 15 minutes). Gate 1 will remain open. After 9 a.m. Sept. 20 expect ID checks for all occupants of all vehicles (no exceptions) and 100 percent inspection of all commercial vehicles. Plan and be prepared for potential delays at the Gates and Entry Control Points.

While closings will affect traffic, every effort will be made to minimize the impact on operations and inconvenience to the public.

The security procedures will also be tailored to include Webster Field annex and Navy Recreation Center Solomons.

For the next two weeks base workers and visitors to Pax River may experience some delays at the air station’s entry checkpoints while the base’s security force participates in ‘‘Solid Curtain,” a Navy-wide force protection exercise to test security efficiency at its installations.

This story from the US Navy has disappeared, and only information on 2006 exercises appear: http://www.news.navy.mil/local/cnatra, interesting as it is specifically concerned with TEXAS involvement, NOT Arizona, Utah or Quam. This is the only relevant item I could find: http://www.news.navy.mil/search/display.asp?story_id=22842

More on delays and gateway delays: http://www.navycompass.com/news/newsview.asp?c=225247

Putting Solid Curtain into google news is pretty much a waste of time, so I'm not even going to publish a link to that.
