BOEHNER V. MCDERMOTT
(U.S. Dist. Ct., D.C., Mar. 31, 2008) - A federal judge awards Congressman John Boehner (Rep. - Ohio) legal fees totaling $1,053,181.78, plus interest for Congressman McDermott's (Dem. - Wash.) violation of the federal wiretapping statute by disclosing to reporters a tape recording of an illegally intercepted conversation in which Congressman Boehner participated. The court already awarded Rep. Boehner $10,000 in statutory damages and $50,000 in punitive damages after finding that Rep. McDermott violated 18 U.S.C. 2511(1)(c). Read more...
