Cuba's ailing leader, Fidel Castro has announced he will not return to the presidency in a letter published by official Communist Party paper, Granma. So much can be said - does the embargo now stop? Does the US populace learn all about the horrible place that its government has placed the Cuban people in?This was a good and interesting digg comment (I'd include more but digg software is real bent)someday in the distant future long after humanity ran its course, if someone could look at the history of our civilization, they'll laugh and say, "I cannot believe they thought democracy would work. to put the power in the people's hands? to let the very future of their society rest in their ignorant minds? Why did people let their society end this way? Did they not choose their leaders? Did they not have the power to protest? The power to speak? The freedom of the press? Did they not have the choice to stand up against what was their ideals of freedom? Democracy ended the way it ended because the people who were too naive to protest ran their society, and the people who became cranky and cynical but most of all knowledgeable who continued to whine, continued to be cranky, cynical, knowledgeable and whiney, as they continued to sit on their ass and watch it all erode into corruption and extermination. The ones that mattered had no matter in the situation, they did nothing. and in return they ended with nothing."
