Saudi Guantanamo detainees: are they now jailed??

After all that hell, they get some more??

Saudi Arabia

>Riyadh: The United States praised the programme adopted by Saudi Arabia to rehabilitate its Guantan-amo returnees as "a successful example", US officials were quoted as saying.

The Arabic-language Al Watan newspaper quoted sources from the US administration as saying that the measures implemented by the kingdom to rehabilitate its citizens returning from Guantanamo detention camp was an example to be followed.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia is awaiting the repatriation of 13 more, the last group of Saudis held by US authorities at Guantanamo Bay. Recently, 11 arrived home from the US detention camp.

Earlier, US authorities promised to free the Saudi detainees this month. Based on this promise, they are expected home before President Bush returns to the US from his current Middle East tour.

Human rights activists sent an open letter to President Bush when he visited Saudi Arabia urging him to release Saudi citizens who are still detained in US custody.

Meanwhile, the interior ministry began earlier this week counselling sessions with 208 militants held in Al Hair prison.

The prison, the biggest in Saudi Arabia, is located in the capital Riyadh. The 208 militants belong to six terrorist cells detained in the past six months.

Dr Mohammad Al Nujaimi, a member of one of the counselling committees, told Gulf News that counselling sessions were also held with a group of 28 militants detained recently.

He explained that among those who were subject to advice are influential militant leaders who agreed to abandon their extremist beliefs.

Earlier the ministry said that 1,500 persons who received guidance by the counselling committees were set free after they rejected the misguided ideologies they earlier embraced.
