DENVER (MyFOXColorado.com) - The Libertarian Party has chosen its presidential candidate at its convention in Denver. Libertarians picked former Republican Representative Bob Barr as their candidate yesterday after six rounds of balloting at their national convention. Barr beat research scientist Mary Ruwart 324-276 on the final ballot. Barr left the GOP in 2006 over what he called bloated spending and civil liberties intrusions by the Bush administration. Wayne Allyn Root was selected as the vice-presidential candidate. The election marked the end of the political career of Mike Gravel, a former Alaska senator who dropped out of the Democratic presidential race. At the Libertarians convention, he was eliminated in the fourth round in voting yesterday. |
