Gearing Up for the Summit

Demonstrators and police prepare for protests planned in and around the
city.

There are no guarantees for a peaceful protest.

That's the message from a group of activists planning to hit the streets in
during next week's North American Leaders Summit.

Thousands of people are being bused into Ottawa for the upcoming gathering
and are warning of protests in both Ottawa and Montebello.

A coalition of local social groups will be protesting, opposing the security
and prosperity partnership between Canada, the U.S. and Mexico.

The activists are calling on the government to stop the talks and instead
hold public hearings. They have planned what they call "Peaceful
Family-Friendly" demonstrations, but one member of the coalition says they
are not responsible for the behaviour of others.

Meanwhile, police are holding a series of public sessions to prepare
business and property owners for the upcoming protests.
