"Free-trade agreements, in general, call for privatization, commercialization, exploitation of natural resources. And as we know, most natural resources, especially in B.C., are actually on unceded indigenous territory.…So people really have to question the idea that free trade brings prosperity to communities."

Free trade is a contradiction, because it is only free for those that profit from it. What makes it free is that it externalizes costs of that trade (environmental degradation, etc.) onto those who do not profit from it.

Fair trade is trade in which all costs are internalized.
