F. DEC 4 TAKING THE HEAT: AFRICAN FARMERS COPING WITH CLIMATE CHANGE

7pm, Tuesday, December 4. Bronson Centre, 211 Bronson Avenue in Ottawa. Admission is free.

Organized by USC Canada.

700 million Africans make their living by growing and selling food. Changes in rainfall patterns, temperatures, and growing season can have devastating impacts on their ability to feed themselves and their communities. Scientists predict that sub-Saharan Africa will be one of the places to feel the heat of climate change most severely.

What is the human face of climate change in Africa? What are Africans already doing to get by? Do Canadians have a responsibility to pitch in and help? Join us December 4th for two events to help us address these questions.

Join us for an evening of dialogue with guests from Mali, Kenya and Malawi to hear stories of how African farmers and rural communities are coping with the impacts of climate change. Guests include:

Mamby Fofana, Mali, Swedish Development Corporation and former Director of the Seeds of Survival Program

  • Joshua Mukusya, Kenya, Founder and Executive Officer of Excellent Development
  • Rachel Bezner-Kerr, Canada, Researcher on Soils, Food and Healthy Communities (Malawi) Download the Poster
