Help the impeachment cause - make this phone call!

Dear Virginia,

The House could vote to hold White House officials in contempt of Congress later this week. Passage of a contempt resolution would mark the first time that the Bush-Cheney administration would truly be held to account for its flagrant disregard for checks and balances.

White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten and former White House Counsel Harriet Miers both refused to comply with congressional subpoenas regarding the U.S. attorney purge, claiming "executive privilege." Those claims of executive privilege were rejected by members of Congress. The House has no choice but to assert its constitutional oversight authority. Please help make sure that it does.

Call now and urge your representative to vote to hold Josh Bolten and Harriet Miers in contempt.

Rep. Bruce Braley

Executive branch abuses of power have defined the Bush-Cheney administration. NOW is the time for Congress to stand up and say enough is enough.

Constitutional law professor Erwin Chemerinsky put it into context in the Baltimore Sun on Sunday:

The issue transcends whether there was misconduct, or even obstruction of justice, in the firing of the federal prosecutors. At stake are basic issues of separation of powers and whether any White House can totally immunize its current and former officials from congressional scrutiny.

The vote will be close. The more than 44,000 PFAW activists who have already signed our petition urging Congress to "Hold Them in Contempt" have certainly helped move this along -- now, with a possible vote by the whole House pending, representatives need to hear directly from their constituents.

Please call now.
