Subject: Om Ah Hung Vajra Guru Pema Siddi Hung

After writing to you all yesterday asking that we say this mantra asking for peace in Nepal as well as throughout the world, I had several enquiries as to the meaning of the phrase.

I am not a Budhist so needed to search for the meaning.

I have included here some interpretations as found in my search. The last URL I have included in this post has a number of mantra being chanted which are available on CD or you may download some as MP3s. There were wav files available but as they weren't for this particular mantra I have not played them with this post.

The above photo[not included here] was shared with me by Kim, a recent visitor to the monastery in Kathmandu. It is of Shyalpa Rinpoche and some of the young monks at the monastery. Jag told me that their gentleness and compassion for each other and those whom visit the monastery is powerful indeed. All these young monks are refugees.

On these pages for which I have included the URLs there were samples and meanings for other mantras as well as the history.

enjoy them all in peace and love

may the blessings of each reign also on you a we collectively ask for peace in all parts of our planet as well as within ourselves.

Om ah hum vajra guru padma siddhi hum

The mantra of the Vajraguru Guru Padma Sambhava who established Mahayana Buddhism and Tantra in Tibet.

GURU RINPOCHE (Vajra Guru) Mantra
Om Ah Hung Vajra Guru Pema Siddi Hung
(actually pronounced) Om Ah Hung Benza Guru Pema Siddi Hung
Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche explains (from Sogyal Rinpoche's book
The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying):

"It is said that the twelve syllables Om Ah Hum Vajra Guru Padma Siddhi Hum carry the entire

blessing of the twelve types of teaching taught by Buddha, which are the essence of His

Eightyfour Thousand Dharmas.

Therefore to recite the Vajra guru mantra once is the equivelent to the blessing of reciting

.....or practicing the whole teaching of the Buddha.

The wisdom mind of Padmasambhava is manifested in the form of the mantra; these twelve

syllables are actually the emanation of His wisdom mind, and they are endowed with His entire

blessing. The vajra guru mantra is Padmasambhava in the form of sound.

So when you invoke Him with the recitation of the twelve syllables, the blessing and merit you

obtain is tremendous. In these difficult times, just as there is no Buddha

or refuge we can call upon who is more powerful than Padmasambhava,

so there is no mantra that is more fitting than the Vajra Guru Mantra."
