On Pakistan, Afghanistan, Mssrs. Dion, Harper and Ignatieff

My editorial of the day

IT CAN HAPPEN HERE

Mr. Michael (Professor to YOU) Ignatieff is Canada's Joe Leiberman.

He's just come back from Afghanistan with Liberal leader Dion. Already the MOSSAD control in the Canadian press is having a real field day. Can West's Asper family tools have completely misquoted Stephane Dion (after putting his life in jeopardy by allowing Harper to comment on his location in Afghanistan). The Harper STRICTLY controls who in Canada goes in and out of Afghanistan. So that was niiiiiiiiiice letting the "cat out of the bag" and then bashing Mr. Dion through his spokesperson. Well, some of us are very pissed off.

Some of us have no wish to see The Harper Minority Report replaced with the Izzy and Iggy Show.

Obviously Mr. Asper does. and the CBC and the CTV cannot even agree as to the details of the Dion remarks.

No one, of course, listens to me; I just quote the international law that the Bushistas totally care to ignore

Since the 2001 Authorization for Military Force put out after the UN told the US Bush Adminstiration (can you say 2000 junta?) to cool their jets. I've put my cards on the table about what I think about ignoring international law and Canada being the handmaiden to the US Decider in Chief's war "racket." I think I hold the rather "Canadian view" that human rights matter.

The US is in a run up to starting another war; it’s worked for them in the past to stave off economic collapse. This is not a good plan for Canada, some rather desperate measures are called for that do not include use of military force in the Middle East.

This time - as opposed to 2001 - the damage is far, far greater with the enormous cost of Iraq and Afghanistan (and then of course there is the “small” matter of continuing to butress Israel and the resulting ME arms race) ..

The US “bookends” policy of support (Pakistan on one end, Israel on the other) and the Cheney intent to balkanize the ME has been ongoing for seven years to the point the entire world market structure in in TOTAL collapse. and I don’t mean just the financial institutions either.

It cannot be covered up for too much longer, as even the MSM is now acknowledging that economically it looks like only the very top bracket in the free market system are going to escape with the shirts on their backs. (The financial press is not looking for the root causes so much, but seeing the symptomology rather well).

Michael "Joe Lieberman" Ignatieff is an ruling class American tool, a plant who has actually wormed his way into the Canadian poliitcal landscape and intends to damage any and all efforts by Dion to allow Canada to chart it's own course. This comment was on Garth Turner's great web blog:

“I believe the Liberals have to be very careful about seeking Ignatieff’s advice on international issues. He does have a great deal of knowledge and he can probably blow people away with that but on reading several of his writings it appears that his judgement is suspect.”

The above remark is highly correct - HIS judgment is suspect, very. I’ve watch him since he walked in and took a riding that Elmer Fudd could have won. The guy thinks in seconds (what’s good for HIM) and doesn’t think long term and I feel/think he is incapable of it. To put it bluntly, the guy’s GONE AMERICAN (and I should know). He’s just another guy who doesn’t disagree with the underlying premise (militarization and annexation of Canada for the US), only with the TACTICS.

This is EXTREMELY dangerous. The US has thrown every single adherance to Geneva and international law away, something to be debated for another day as the White House and Cheney's office continue their ever obnoxious and lethal misinterpretation of the US Supreme law of the land. Obvious symptoms: Jose Padillo, Omar Khadr. While the US Bush Adminstration is going to have its day some day at the ICC some day- an institution which I hope at least a few on this webblog take with utter seriousness and respect - there is no reason for Canada to get itself embroiled in further Bush international legal violations.

The US' KING George, representative in the kleig lights, Imperial President, and his primary adviser, Dirty Dick Cheney, are cherry picking intel info once again as they did before the war in Iraq; this time it’s with PAKISTAN (they’re still fighting about the Iran NIE) ..

CIA/intelligence are claiming they “know” who killed the Pakistani PM: They’re claiming AlQueda. Strange, this was before the review of evidence. We saw this with 9-11. Even today, the FBI said there is “no evidence” linking Osama bin Ladin to 9-11; yet, without reviewing anything, the CIA ‘knows’ something.

Last time the intelligence community said something, the President ignored them: He didn’t like the Iran NIE.

Hope he enjoys picking while he can. Convicted war criminals don’t get much of a choice on prison garb, cell size, visitor frequency nor which Canucks they can hang out with.

Ask our potential Prime Minister to contrast the difference of “assertions about AlQueda” in the Pakistani and 9-11 situations. Let him take a look. Don't rely on Iggy's assertions; he's been wrong on intel matters before.

To those of us in the know it doesn’t make sense, this quickly, to say anything was “certain”, but still 7 years later, still unclear about the facts behind the AUMF. Canada's reliance must be on international law and not on US intelligence sources nor those who would cherry pick them. It must not rely on Michael Ignatieff's misinterpretations.

Canada’s BEST line of defense - as I have said - is to stay on top of their NATO commitments, to go to the Security Council with a firm commitment to making the US PROVE themselves this time, and to stay within the confines of ICC guidelines themselves (which there is evidence they are NOT doing.)

As for Ignateiff - watch OUT!

Liberal leader Dion has a much higher probability of sorting out the truth as a NON American tool. Mr. Layton doesn't seem to have any good foreign policy advisers, but The Harper will neutralize him soon anyway.

I want to ensure that Ignatieff doesn’t pull the wool over the eyes of a single Canadian.

Some of us know what he is doing here in Canada.

I most sincerely hope that Mr. Dion can hold his party together. I, for one, have a very good idea of what is at stake.

This is a direct quote from his Montreal Gezette interview after the comments were made.

“I was very, very surprised by the way it was reported,” Dion said. “I did not expect this interpretation.”

and this I saw this comment posted: How bad is it getting for Dion ?

Rumour has it that the next set of Conservatie tv ads will switch emphasis to ….

Jack Layton is NOT a leader

This is Dion's actual interview with Peter Mansbridge on Thursday:

From Thursday’s The National:

CBC’s Peter Mansbridge: I want to just remind viewers of your remarks, and I want to understand exactly what you meant by this. Perhaps something was lost in translation. I think it was originally in French, but the English translation has been: “If [Pakistani leaders] are incapable of doing it themselves, it is something that we could envision with NATO forces; how to help Pakistan help us bring peace to Afghanistan.” What are you saying here? Canadian troops, NATO forces should go into Afghanistan?

Liberal Leader Stephane Dion: Obviously not. It was diplomatic intervention with an effort that was to be more concerted between Canada and our NATO allies.

Mansbridge: But you know, I mean, with respect, we’ve been doing that for six years.

Dion: I don’t have the magic solution. I’m just telling you…

Mansbridge: No, but on the diplomatic front, we have actually done that. Canadian ministers have been to Pakistan, American ministers. Americans are pouring billions of dollars into Pakistan. General Hillier has been there.

Dion: We should never miss an opportunity to make this point. Diplomatic effort very actively in Pakistan, because it’s part of the problem. Part of what we are doing in the south of Afghanistan, in the province of Kandahar is nullified by the fact that the insurgents, they cross the border, they ignore the border. And when we provide security in an area, they may come back at any time from Pakistan.

Mansbridge: Everybody gets the problem, but what’s the solution? Because talk has not seemed to have worked.

Dion: Well, I have no other solution than to say that we need to be very assertive in our diplomatic effort and pressure on Pakistan.

Mansbridge: But like what? How are we assertive? What do we say? What are we going to do if they don’t do it? What does “being assertive” mean?

Dion: I have no solution, no magic solution to offer on that and nobody has. The only thing is if you compare Pakistan with Afghanistan, Pakistan has one of the most powerful armies in the world, the sixth or the seventh. They should be able to go in these areas and to do more. The Government of Afghanistan told us that very clearly. Their view is that the terrorist centres, training centres in Pakistan are known, we know where they are located it’s what they are saying and that it should not be impossible for the Government of Pakistan to do much more to help us.

Mansbridge: They have been saying that, though, for ages. I’m sure Hamid Karzai said to you what he said to others there. He said that to me in his office, that they know where Mullah Omar is. They know the house he is staying in. I mean, do you really believe that they know that? And if they did know that, that they couldn’t do something about it?

Dion: Well, I’m just saying that if, one thing, that there are easy solutions in Afghanistan, it’s not the case. And one of the difficulties that explains why the province of Kandahar is more dangerous than the others is this wide open border with Pakistan.

Here is the CBC's link to Canada in Afghanistan. Another 3500 troops stand at the ready to be deployed. No one's impeaching Bush or Cheney, the architects of a meltdown in international law.

You think it can't happen here, in Canada, watch THIS.

TASARS - MORE!!

Here's an EXPERT'S view of the Dzeikanski event

So, obviously there are people who know exactly the procedures to be followed in emergency situations in Canada. Also, without the video that was made, the NDP would never have gotten on the stick to get something done to get an investigation going.

the youtube site where this video resides has much much more on police corruption in BC ..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dmso2dg-RMI&feature=related

Now some older sites with taZer information:

Video clip from Saturday August 20, 2005. anti-recruiting protest on forbes.

QuickTime movie at 4.7 mebibytes

A woman is on the ground, restrained by police officers, when a bald police officer arrived and fired a taser into her thigh. [yeah, like it was NECESSARY to taZer her? C'mon boyz! All these clips are gonna come out on investigations as to their use. Women really get a good ZAPPING when "needs" be when they couldn't possibly hurt those who are attacking them with the ZAP! Who is kidding who???]

the bald-headed cop fired his taser at the crowd

Now you see how they are instruments of torture? This photo PROVES that they aren't used as pacifiers for crazy people or to protect cops, but to TORTURE people exercising their right to free assembly ... Real nice, um Hmmm .. real nice. I am positive Taser International has seen this photo. IT comes from Pittsburgh Indy Media.

Here is a report on what transpired that day in Pittsburgh, as activists LEFT a protest against military recruitment,

As the speech finished, someone taped a cardboard sign to the stations
door reading No Lies Told Today, Recruitment Center Has Been Shut Down. At this point, a cameraman from Fox News shoved his camera into the face of a protester who was standing by the sign. When that individual asked that it be pointed somewhere else (instead of his face) the cameraman became aggressive. An altercation ensued at which point he started screaming to the cops to arrest people for assaulting his camera. Police from the City Of Pittsburgh and the University of Pittsburgh promptly began to attack the crowd on the sidewalk. The first person arrested (and according to the police, the person Fox is pressing charges against) was hit and pepper sprayed, during which time a cop held a taser two inches from his face. After that, a women in the crowd was grabbed, hit, pepper sprayed in the face while on the ground, and then tasered, all while three large cops stood around her. She is currently in the hospital and we are unsure of her condition. A male protester was also arrested, pepper-sprayed and tasered. An overwhelming police presence started ordering people to disperse from the sidewalk, and a police dog began pursuing people. Cops hit and shoved people, while the dog lunged forward and bit a 68-year-old grandmother who was walking away with her back to the dog. The police also let the dog bite a videographer, who narrowly avoided injury as the dog only got his pants. Further outrages occurred as the police grabbed a 17 year-old girl off the sidewalk and slammed her to the ground. Her crime? She questioned the legality of their earlier actions. Pepper spray also hit a group of children and the police knocked over a man in a wheelchair.

So you see that's how it works - you disable people with pepper spray (a chemical weapon) and THEN you taser them AFTER they are totally disabled. Nice, real nice.

National class action suit against TASER, Int.

and more 'surprises' outlined in this week's Chronicle, Naked City-she does make note of our year-old Taser death:

Multiple tases may kill
BY JORDAN SMITH

Repeated Taser shocks "may impair" breathing and may lead to death, according to a new safety bulletin published by Arizona-based Taser International Inc., the leading manufacturer of electro-shock weapons used by nearly 7,000 law enforcement agencies nationwide. In a June 28 bulletin, the company warned that "repeated, prolonged and/or continuous exposure to the Taser may cause strong muscle contractions that may impair breathing and respiration, particularly when the [weapon's metal] probes are placed across the chest or diaphragm," The Arizona Republic reported on July 30. In previous training manuals, however, "Taser … told police to use repeated shocks to control a suspect," the daily reported. The bulletin also warns that multiple shocks and corresponding muscle contractions could cause injury to "tissues, organs, bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, joints and stress/compression fractures to bones," reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Nonetheless, Tom Smith, Taser's founder and president, told the J-C that the warning is "nothing new" and is merely a regular training update. "We are just being more specific than we were before," Smith said.

Nonetheless, the warning was posted the same day a Chicago, Ill., medical examiner ruled that the February death of 54-year-old Ronald Hasse was an electrocution caused by two Taser jolts delivered by a Chicago police sergeant. The ruling marks the first time that a medical examiner has listed a jolt from the electro-shock weapon as the primary cause of death. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Cook Co. Deputy Medical Examiner Scott Denton reported that Hasse received a five-second jolt, followed by a second, 57-second charge. Hasse was intoxicated on methamphetamine at the time, the daily reported, but it was the Taser, not the drugs, that ultimately caused his death – the Taser, Denton said, was what "pushed [Hasse] over the edge." The Sun-Times further reported that Denton plans to meet with Chicago PD officials this week to "suggest" that Tasers not be used on people who "are acting psychotic or appear to be under the influence of drugs." In fact, many of the people who've died after being shocked by Tasers have been determined to have had drugs in their system – including the Austin case of Abel Perez, who was tased several times and later died. The autopsy listed "accidental overdose" as the cause of death.

Amnesty Intl USA: Third So-Called "Independent" TASER Study Linked to Manufacturer

author: AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL (USA)

(Washington, DC)Today Dr. William F. Schulz, Executive Director of Amnesty International USA (AIUSA), released the following statement regarding documents listing Taser International executives, consultants and businesses partners as panelists in the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) TASER study. This discovery reported over the weekend by the Arizona Republic marks the third time in five months that the manufacturer has been linked to "independent" studies:
A policeman demonstrating a US-style Taser stun gun
A policeman demonstrating a US-style Taser stun gun
"Police departments around the world are purchasing TASERs based, in part, on constant reassurances from the manufacturer that numerous 'independent' studies have proven the electro-shock weapons to be safe and effective. But new revelations reported by the Arizona Republic over the weekend have made it abundantly clear that the company did not voluntarily reveal its connections to this study and the individuals who actually made the claim that TASERs are safe. In October 2004, a Taser International executive called the DoD report the 'granddaddy' of all independent studies. However, even as he made that claim, the company knew that their employees, business partners, and a long list of Taser's clients and supporters had participated in virtually every aspect of producing this report.

For example, the report states that the final version is a product that was reviewed by the 'Independent External Review Workshop.' But, Taser International has consistently failed to voluntarily reveal the fact that nearly half of the members of that panel were either employees of or had some other type of relationship with the company."
(End of Statement)

The Arizona Republic story marks the third time in five months that it has been revealed that Taser International has tried to hide its involvement in so-called independent studies. In January, media reports exposed information that three of the four researchers on an allegedly independent study were employees of Taser International and one was a paid consultant for the company. Two weeks ago, the public learned that the recipient of a $500,000 federal research grant tried to hide the fact that he would be paying Taser International's medical director $18,000 to consult on his supposedly independent study.

Amnesty International continues to call for comprehensive, independent medical studies to determine the risks TASER shocks pose to the general public. Everyday that TASER supporters refuse to engage in an honest debate and stonewall attempts to find answers to these questions is another day that the real, lifesaving potential of this new technology will go unrecognized.
