update on Wexler wants hearings

We got it to 50,000, now lets go for 100,000

Activism | Impeachment

Readers of this website helped mightily to get 55,000 people to sign on to www.wexlerwantshearings.com, the site Rep. Robert Wexler (D-FL) set up on Friday to elicit public support for his call, made jointly with Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) and Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), for the House Judiciary Committee to begin immediate hearings on Rep. Dennis Kucinich's bill (H Res 799) for the impeachment of Vice President Dick Cheney.

Although this dramatic development in the impeachment movement of having three senior members of the House Judiciary Committee join in calling for hearings has not been reported in any mainstream medium, by early this afternoon, the number of signers on the website had grown to 78,000. And people are adding their names at a rate of almost one per second.

We have a good chance to drive this number up over 100,000, if people will press their friends and relatives to go to the site and sign on.

There is also word that other members of the Judiciary Committee--perhaps as many as six or more--are considering adding their names to the Wexler-Gutierrez-Baldwin call. If that happens, and if the petition grows beyond 100,000 names, it is hard do see how House Speaker Nancy Pelosi can continue her anti-democratic position of keeping a lid on impeachment.

So get to work people. We have an impeachment to get on the table!
