As of the 23rd of April the Observatoire Volcanologique du Piton de la Fournaise, IPGP, Réunion, France reported that the eruption is still in progress in le Grand Brûlé: The trémor remains constant, the intensity of lava flow varies from one day to another. Seismics under the summit are always recorded, the walls of Dolomieu continue to be exhausted.

An important seismicity is always observed with the balance of the summit and a one kilometre depth to the lower part of the sea level. On the other hand no seismics in the area of Tremblet was observed. The magmatic chamber continues to be emptied. The gases "pistons" are in reduction at the summit but appear on the level of the eruption which explains the recrudescence of the noted fountains of lava this morning. Many inhabitants of Tremblet came as neighbours Saturday evening in summit from the slopes which dominate the enclosure of the volcano to be filled with wonder in front of the spectacle of lava flows. Work consisting in arranging a point of view of observation is in the course of security. Consequently, the access to the public remains prohibited.

The massive Piton de la Fournaise basaltic shield volcano on the French island of Réunion in the western Indian Ocean is one of the world's most active volcanoes. Much of its >530,000 year history overlapped with eruptions of the deeply dissected Piton des Neiges shield volcano to the NW. Three calderas formed at about 250,000, 65,000, and less than 5000 years ago by progressive eastward slumping of the volcano. Numerous pyroclastic cones dot the floor of the calderas and their outer flanks. Most historical eruptions have originated from the summit and flanks of Dolomieu, a 400-m-high lava shield that has grown within the youngest caldera, which is 8 km wide and breached to below sea level on the eastern side. More than 150 eruptions, most of which have produced fluid basaltic lava flows, have occurred since the 17th century. Only six eruptions, in 1708, 1774, 1776, 1800, 1977, and 1986, have originated from fissures on the outer flanks of the caldera. The Piton de la Fournaise Volcano Observatory, one of several operated by the Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris, monitors this very active volcano.

The volcano Piton de la Fournaise is currently at the ORANGE alert level.

The volcano Piton de la Fournaise was successfully forecasted by INTLVRC's programme ERUPTION Pro 10.6 to erupt in 2007 with 100.00% probability.

ON SLAVERY AND PERFECT COFFEE

PUBLIC RELATIONS History of the Island

Some 800 kilometers off the coast of Madagascar, in the middle of the Indian Ocean, lies one of the world’s most perfect islands: La Réunion. Many of the world’s finest coffees had their origins in the rich volcanic soil of Reunion Island’s mountainsides.

Discovered by Portuguese explorer Tristan da Cunha in 1505, the island has a fascinating (?) history. For centuries, this tropical jewel regularly changed hands between European naval powers.

With its perfect climate and mountainous terrain, the island proved ideally suited for coffee cultivation. Early in the 1700’s, the island became home to flourishing coffee estates. The finest coffee trees were transplanted to Eastern Africa to create the foundations of today’s fine estates in Kenya and Tanzania.

Reunion Island currently flies the FRENCH flag.

Reunion Island from space, via NASA

At one time, the Yemeni held a monopoly on all the coffee beans. These beans are what are referred to as ARABICA beans, as they came directly from Ethiopia, where beans were discovered (supposedly by a shepherd who was curious as to why his goats came home giddy and happy after wandering away. They were ingesting and celebrating caffeine and the delightful taste of coffee.

On 5 August 1665, Etienne Regnault was sent to Bourbon by the Compagnie Française des Indes Orientales, which had a royal monopole on French trade in the Indian Ocean since 1664. Regnault was appointed Governor of Bourbon by Colbert. The twenty men who came with him were the first official colons in Bourbon. In March 1667, a fleet commanded by de Mondevergues called at Bourbon on its way to Fort-Dauphin. Five women were disembarked and Regnault was given Colbert's instructions for colonisation of the island.

A French military squadron, commanded by Lieutenant-General de la Haye, reached the island on 7 April 1671. De la Haye issued on 1 December 1674 a decree prescribing the organisation of the colony. Hunting was forbidden ("because it would made the colons lazy") and every colon had to rear two oxen, 400 poultries and twelve pigs and to grow rice, grains and vegetables. In 1685, the Compagnie Française des Indes Orientales took the control of Bourbon, then settled by 260 colons, and expelled the pirates who overran the coasts of the island.

A Provincial Council was created on 7 March 1711. In 1715, six Moka coffee trees were imported from Yemen. Coffee became the main production of the island and each colon had to grow 100 coffee trees. This cultivation was extremely time and labour consuming, which caused the introduction of slavery on Bourbon.

The regulation from 29 January 1727 stated that the Governor should stay alternatively six months in Ile-de-France (Mauritius) and six months in Bourbon. On 27 December 1730, a decree appointed the first permanent Governor of Bourbon, Dumas. However, Ile-de-France was favoured, especially during the rule of its governor Mahé de la Bourdonnais (1735-1746). Most maritime activity was located on Ile-de-France whereas Bourbon was used for staple food production (read: sugar, tea, coffee ...) *snip*

n 1806, the island was renamed Bonaparte and became a hot spot in the struggle against England for the control of the Indian Ocean. England seized the island in 1810 and introduced the cultivation of sugar cane. Not really interested in the island, England retroceded it to France in 1815. The island was renamed Bourbon during the Restauration. The name of Reunion was reestablished in 1848.

On 20 December 1848, General Commissioner of the Republic Sarda-Garriga proclaimed the abolition of slavery, freeing 62,000. Several Indian workers were imported to replace the former slaves and avoid an economical crisis. The end of the XIXth century was marked by the sugar crisis (1865), a slaughter on 2 December 1868 and a severe economical crisis caused by the opening of the canal of Suez in 1869.

Now, the Piton de la Fournaise is erupting AND there is a very nasty strain of virus going around which has been caught by the high 100,000's.

Kucinich and the legal grounds for IMPEACHING Cheney ...

I was most disturbed to find the comments posted on the announcement that Kucinich was to pursue impeachment were in the main derogatory. Especially those that called into question the LEGAL grounds for such an action and threw darts at D's honest attempt to try to restore some decency to America. He, Kucinich stands "impeached" and called into question as if this was the ONLY way he could get attnetion. A headline grabber who has no chance of winning.

Invidious attacks on his motives will help no one who is honest. I have noticed, in the main, the male alphas of the so-called left are all over Dennis now that he has "announced" - would that they have the power he has!! He is no wimp, and saying he is does not make him so. Nor is what he is doing to grab headlines .. where are the others in CONgress lining up to stop torture, ensure an Iraq withdrawal deadline is kept, standing against developing the Arctic slope, etc ...?

I went back through my "archives" and came up with this email below. You can see the date for yourself. This, plus TWO very respectable books have shown that there IS a case against Cheney very clearly.

I think that tomorrow, or within days we will know EXACTLY what the legal basis for the action are. It must be so.

Conyers has certainly been in possession of enough damaging evidence to go after Bush, BUT ...

At the time of the email below, we had a republican-controlled CONgress. It would have been VERY awkward to have Bush impeached and then Dick leading the puppet show. In the case of Nixon, Agnew was "relieved" of his "duties" so that he could not stand-in before impeachment against the President (mainly for wiretapping of Elsberg's psychiatrist -- and the revelations in the Pentagon Papers) was pursued. Hence, the Kucinich approach is surely more compelling and certainly more pragmatic at this point in time!! Just he kind of leadership we have been led to expect from him.

And as for Dennis, I think as time goes along, many people (and sheeple) are gonna find that what they are looking for is the Dem from Ohio ... and the team he can create to finally put people above profit$.

Richard Johnson points out that the moral turpitude of impeachment must include a finding that the official benefitted personally from a policy decision that hurt the country. It should be easy enough to prove that Cheney's ties to Halliburton, which has profited enormously from the Iraq war, meet this standard, and Cheney is impeachable.

Bush's stock holdings:

USATODAY.com - Bush portfolio shows fiscal conservatism

... Bush has had his holdings managed by a blind trust since 1995, when he
was elected governor of ... None of Bush's individual stock holdings exceeds
$1,000, so a bad

... www.usatoday.com/news /washington/inaug/2001-01-18-finances.htm

Financial gain by Bush would be harder to prove. However, it might be
possible to show that he benefitted politically from wiretapping political
critics and opponents, as Nixon did. This would require access to some of
the info gained by warrantless wiretapping and email reading. The outing of
Plame makes a much stronger case: retaliation against a truthteller for
undercutting his lies on Iraq.

DAN,

This is all very interesting, but there are 2 facts that make
impeachment politically infeasable [sic] at this time: the majority of the
House is held by Republicans; and the vice president is worse.

Moreover, the legal standard for impeachment according to the
constitution is moral turpitude, bribery, and high treason. This
implies there must be a finding the president intended to benefit
personally from his actions, which at the same time contravened the national interest in a material way.

The following message advocates the following as possible
impeachment grounds:

<>

On the other hand, retaliation against critics of the
administration by means that in themselves are illegal, and violation
of laws regulating spying against US citizens could sui generi be
impeachable offenses if shown they were undertaken for motives of
personal gain instead of overriding national interest.

Report | The Constitution in Crisis
By House Judiciary Committee Minority Staff

Tuesday 20 December 2005

The Downing Street minutes and deception, manipulation, torture,
retribution, and coverups in the Iraq war.

Full Report:http://www.truthout.org/3 .122005ConRes.pdf>www.truthout.org/3.122005ConRes.pdf

Executive Summary

This Minority Report has been produced at the request of
Representative John Conyers, Jr., Ranking Member of the House
Judiciary Committee. He made this request in the wake of the
President's failure to respond to a letter submitted by 122 Members
of Congress and more than 500,000 Americans in July of this year
asking him whether the assertions set forth in the Downing Street
Minutes were accurate. Mr. Conyers asked staff, by year end 2005, to
review the available information concerning possible misconduct by
the Bush Administration in the run up to the Iraq War and
post-invasion statements and actions, and to develop legal
conclusions and make legislative and other recommendations to him.

In brief, we have found that there is substantial evidence the
President, the Vice President and other high ranking members of the
Bush Administration misled Congress and the American people regarding
the decision to go to war with Iraq; misstated and manipulated
intelligence information regarding the justification for such war;
countenanced torture and cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment and
other legal violations in Iraq; and permitted inappropriate
retaliation against critics of their Administration.

There is a prima facie case that these actions by the President,
Vice-President and other members of the Bush Administration violated
a number of federal laws, including (1) Committing a Fraud against
the United States; (2) Making False Statements to Congress; (3) The
War Powers Resolution; (4) Misuse of Government Funds; (5) federal
laws and international treaties prohibiting torture and cruel,
inhuman, and degrading treatment; (6) federal laws concerning
retaliating against witnesses and other individuals; and (7) federal
laws and regulations concerning leaking and other misuse of
intelligence.

While these charges clearly rise to the level of impeachable
misconduct, because the Bush Administration and the
Republican-controlled Congress have blocked the ability of Members to
obtain information directly from the Administration concerning these
matters, more investigatory authority is needed before
recommendations can be made regarding specific Articles of
Impeachment. As a result, we recommend that Congress establish a
select committee with subpoena authority to investigate the
misconduct of the Bush Administration with regard to the Iraq war
detailed in this Report and report to the Committee on the Judiciary
on possible impeachable offenses.

In addition, we believe the failure of the President, Vice
President and others in the Bush Administration to respond to myriad
requests for information concerning these charges, or to otherwise
account for explain a number of specific misstatements they have made
in the run up to War and other actions warrants, at minimum, the
introduction and Congress' approval of Resolutions of Censure against
Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney. Further, we recommend that Ranking Member
Conyers and others consider referring the potential violations of
federal criminal law detailed in this Report to the Department of
Justice for investigation; Congress should pass legislation to limit
government secrecy, enhance oversight of the Executive Branch,
request notification and justification of presidential pardons of
Administration officials, ban abusive treatment of detainees, ban the
use of chemical weapons, and ban the practice of paying foreign media
outlets to publish news stories prepared by or for the Pentagon; and
the House should amend its Rules to permit Ranking Members of
Committees to schedule official Committee hearings and call witnesses
to investigate Executive Branch misconduct.

The Report rejects the frequent contention by the Bush
Administration that there pre-war conduct has been reviewed and they
have been exonerated. No entity has ever considered whether the
Administration misled Americans about the decision to go to war. The
Senate Intelligence Committee has not yet conducted a review of
pre-war intelligence distortion and manipulation, while the
Silberman-Robb report specifically cautioned that intelligence
manipulation "was not part of our inquiry." There has also not been
any independent inquiry concerning torture and other legal violations
in Iraq; nor has there been an independent review of the pattern of
coverups and political retribution by the Bush Administration against
its critics, other than the very narrow and still ongoing inquiry of
Special Counsel Fitzgerald.

While the scope of this Report is largely limited to Iraq, it
also holds lessons for our Nation at a time of entrenched one-party
rule and abuse of power in Washington. If the present Administration
is willing to misstate the facts in order to achieve its political
objectives in Iraq, and Congress is unwilling to confront or
challenge their hegemony, many of our cherished democratic principles
are in jeopardy.

This is true not only with respect to the Iraq War, but also in
regard to other areas of foreign policy, privacy and civil liberties,
and matters of economic and social justice. Indeed as this Report is
being finalized, we have just learned of another potential
significant abuse of executive power by the President, ordering the
National Security Agency to engage in domestic spying and wiretapping
without obtaining court approval in possible violation of the Foreign
Intelligence Surveillance Act.

It is tragic that our Nation has invaded another sovereign nation
because "the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the
policy," as stated in the Downing Street Minutes. It is equally
tragic that the Bush Administration and the Republican Congress have
been unwilling to examine these facts or take action to prevent this
scenario from occurring again. Since they appear unwilling to act, it
is incumbent on individual Members of Congress as well as the
American public to act to protect our constitutional form of
government.

Health tip found in peoplenomics this morning ...

Vicks Vaporub

"Supposedly this works 100% of the time although the scientists at the Canada Research council (who discovered it) aren't sure why.
To stop nighttime coughing in a child (or adult as we found out personally), put Vicks Vaporub generously on the bottom of the feet at bedtime then cover with socks.
Even persistent, heavy, deep coughing will stop in about 5 minutes and stay stopped for many, many hours of relief.
Works 100% of the time and is more effective in children than even very strong prescription cough medicines. In addition it is extremely soothing and comforting and they will sleep soundly.

I heard the head of the Canada Research Council describe these findings on the part of their scientists when they were investigating the effectiveness and usage of prescription cough medicines in children as compared to alternative therapies like accupressure. Just happened to tune in A.M. Radio and picked up this guy talking about why cough medicines in kids often do more harm than good due to the chemical makeup of these strong drugs so, I listened.

It was a surprising finding and found to be more effective than prescribed medicines for children at bedtime, and in addition, to have a soothing and calming effect on sick children who then went on to sleep soundly.

Lolly tried it on herself when she had a very deep constant and persistent cough a few weeks ago and it worked 100%! She said that it felt like a warm blanket had enveloped her, coughing stopped in a few minutes and believe me, this was a deep, ( incredibly annoying!) every few seconds uncontrollable cough, and she slept cough free for hours every night that she used it.

So, if you have Grandchildren, pass it on, if you end up sick, try it yourself and you will be absolutely amazed by the effect."

If the Earth
were only a few feet in
diameter, floating a few feet above
a field somewhere, people would come
from everywhere to marvel at it. People would
walk around it marvelling at its big pools of water.
its little pools and the water flowing between the pools.
People would marvel at the very thin layer of gas surrounding
it and the water suspended in the gas. The people would
marvel at all the creatures walking around the surface of the
ball, and at the creatures in the water. The people would declare
it as sacred because it was the only one, and they would protect
it so that it would not hurt. The ball would be the
greatest wonder known, and people would come to
pray to it, to be healed, to gain knowledge, to know
beauty and to wonder how it could be. People
would love it, and defend it with their lives
because they would somehow know that
their lives, their own roundness, could
be nothing without it. If the
Earth were only a few

The God of Unconditional Love (Part 2)

If the world were taught of this God, the world would change. Yet, where are the courageous spiritual leaders who will give up the God of fear to teach about the God of unconditional love?

Could you be one of them? Spiritual leaders do not have to be members of the clergy. Regular, ordinary, everyday people can be spiritual leaders. . . .

. . . the idea now is not to hide out, but to come out, so that others will find the courage to do the same, and all the world may know that it is not alone.

Earth Day 2007

The pic above (by Ellynore, and a fine pic it is, too)

seems to symbolize EXACTLY how I feel about

Earth Day this year.

In the past, no one seemed to remember that there were FOUR r's, not three. Reduce, reuse, recycle are great. But RETHINK is so IMPORTANT. We live on ONE planet, with finite resources, but infinite creativity.

For the past coupla weeks, I've asked people to post me their ideas as if they belonged to a think tank that was refashioning the world.

Today, I read Mary Ratcliff's fabulous article in OpEd News

Her question is ...

So you want to save the planet? What should you consider first ...

and the answer is very forthcoming.

And in line with what I put forward to my OWN question. We need a consortium that does nothing but think about what needs to be done!! And she shows how one such month-long conference lead to so many positive innovations .... I think we need our own think tank!! (with pay, of course! I am SO sick of reading CIA documents about the doom to come from water, drought conditions, terrorists and the like).

Now, Mary has an open thread for discussion at The Left Coaster
which I think you could post your comments on this important question as well as on OpEd. Someone remarked that her article was timely. I think it was beyond timely!! It's the PRIORITY NUMERO UNO. It's up to US becuz with these governments' YOYO mentality (You are On Your Own, as Katrina so poignantly showed us), we are going to have to set the AGENDA.

Funny, but Lenin's first book was "What needs to be done ...?" This is not to say we must have socialist or communist ideology or systemology, but highlights just how important setting an agenda really IS ...

And in that vein, a very exciting event is marked for 17 May.

Read the story. Sign up to stand up. Set up an event in YOUR community. Invite EVERYONE in your address book(s). Send news about this to your media. Get all the men there!

STAND UP!

It's time for our silent celebrations. The sheeple are waking up!

And before I forget, Care2, had an outstanding campaign this year. I signed the pledge, did you ...?

Earthquakes lead to increased volcanic activity
Malaysia Sun
Wednesday 11th April, 2007
(ANI)
http://story. malaysiasun. com/index. php/ct/9/ cid/89d96798a395 64bd/id/240773/ cs/1/
(okay. I did try to fix the link, I really did!!)

Washington, Apr 11 : Scientists using NASA satellite data have found strong evidence that a major earthquake can lead to a nearly immediate increase in regional volcanic activity.

The intensity of two ongoing volcanic eruptions on Indonesia's Java Island increased sharply three days following a powerful, 6.4-magnitude earthquake on the island in May 2006. The increased volcanic activity further persisted for about nine days.

"During this period, we found clear evidence that the earthquake caused both volcanoes to release greater amounts of heat, and lava emission surged to two to three times higher than prior to the tremor," said lead author of the study, Andrew Harris, from the University of Hawaii, Honolulu.

While scientists have long debated whether earthquakes can trigger new volcanic eruptions, this study linked an earthquake to enhanced volcanic activity at two ongoing eruptions that were being closely monitored by satellite-based sensors on a daily basis.

At the time of the earthquake, each volcano was being checked for changes in heat output by satellite sensors as part of a routine global "hot spot" monitoring effort that uses near real-time satellite data from NASA's Terra and Aqua satellites.

Maps of worldwide hot spot activity are created with data from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument on these satellites, pinpointing locations where surface temperatures are much hotter than their surroundings.

Researchers combined these data with other details about the Indonesian volcanoes gathered by the satellites to analyze temperature and lava output rates at both volcanoes over a 35-day period spanning the earthquake.

They found that the two volcanoes, Merapi and Semeru, which are about 260 kilometres apart and roughly 50 kilometres north and 280 kilometres east of the earthquake epicentre, showed an increase in eruption rate due to underground stresses from the earthquake's seismic waves.

The seismic waves pumped magma -- molten rock beneath the surface -- into the conduit to the surface, increasing eruption rates.

"The responses at Merapi and Semeru lagged about three days behind the triggering earthquake, which may reflect the time it took the change felt by magma residing at deeper levels to be transmitted to the surface," said Harris.

The researchers said that regional earthquake events had sufficient power to modify the intensity of activity at ongoing eruptions, although they may not always be able to trigger new volcanic eruptions.

According to their findings, the Java earthquake had a significant influence on the volcanoes for a relatively short period of several days.

"Eruptions must be closely and continuously monitored in the days immediately before, during and after an earthquake if we are to link any earthquake with enhanced volcanic activity," added Harris.

The research was recently published in the American Geophysical Union's Geophysical Research Letters.

How advanced are we REALLY ..?

Native Issues get censored.

This puts putting a proper perspective on environmental issues very hard to visualize. They are the first victims, nearly every time, of gross indifference to PEOPLE in the pursuit of profit. I told you so, doesn't even BEGIN to cover it, that's why I hack away at Big Pharma and Pharmocorporate Culture.

It isn't just that they give people these drugs (including me) BUT the doses are unbelievable. I think that even though people are getting hip, the profits are still going up ... they take more pills EACH.

There are other putrid things about the Virginia Tech murders, massive oddities as in each case. Clump murders. Were their two shooters or one? Why was the shooter's nationality not released immediately? Why do people sell these folks gunz? Why did no one notice this young man's distress? Why did it come on the day Alberto Gonzales was scheduled to testify to CONgress?

As Desi would say, "Lucy, you got some 'splainin' to do ..."

However Mike Adams has covered all the bases here, including the most appaling of all ... that 100,000 people die EACH YEAR from Big Pharma (at a minimum).

Rest in peace, and may their survivors find away to endless all this KILLING.

Are antidepressant drugs an accomplice in the Virginia Tech shootings? (opinion)

The Chicago Tribune reports that Cho Seung Hui, the Virginia Tech shooter who killed 32 fellow students in a shooting rampage, was taking antidepressant drugs. This is not the first time a school shooting rampage has been linked to antidepressants. The infamous Colombine High shootings took place almost exactly eight years ago, and the shooters in that rampage were also -- you guessed it -- taking antidepressant drugs.

What is it about antidepressant drugs that provokes young men to pick up pistols, rifles and shotguns, then violently assault their classmates? Clearly, there's something wrong with the mind of anyone who engages in such violent acts. Could the drugs be "imbalancing" their minds, priming them for violence?

The answer is a very sobering, "Yes, they could be." As we reported in a previous NewsTarget article on Paxil:

Researchers from Cardiff University in Britain and the Cochrane Centre examined data on Paxil -- or its generic form, paroxetine -- from GlaxoSmithKline, legal cases and emails from nearly 1,400 patients who responded to a British TV program on antidepressants. The researchers found that 60 out of 9,219 people taking Paxil -- 0.65 percent -- experienced a "hostility event," compared to 20 out of 6,455 patients taking placebo, or 0.31 percent.

In that same article, published in September, 2006, I stated, "This finding helps explain why school shootings are almost always conducted by children who are taking antidepressants. We also know that SSRIs cause children to disconnect from reality. When you combine that with a propensity for violence, you create a dangerous recipe for school shootings and other adolescent violence."

Sadly, that explanation rings true once again with the Virginia Tech shooting. Wherever we see school violence, antidepressant drugs seem to found at the scene of the crime. The correlation is not coincidence. There is a causal link between the two.

The links between antidepressants and violence are well documented
A study published in the Public Library of Science Medicine (an open source medical journal) explored these same links in detail. (See Antidepressants and Violence: Problems at the Interface of Medicine and Law, by David Healy, Andrew Herxheimer, David B. Menkes)

The authors note that "Some regulators, such as the Canadian regulators, have also referred to risks of treatment-induced activation leading to both self-harm and harm to others" and the "United States labels for all antidepressants as of August 2004 note that 'anxiety, agitation, panic attacks, insomnia, irritability, hostility, aggressiveness, impulsivity, akathisia (psychomotor restlessness), hypomania, and mania have been reported in adult and pediatric patients being treated with antidepressants for major depressive disorder as well as for other indications, both psychiatric and nonpsychiatric'".

In other words, the link between antidepressants and violence has been known for years by the very people manufacturing, marketing or prescribing the drugs. As the author of the study mentioned above concluded, "The new issues highlighted by these cases need urgent examination jointly by jurists and psychiatrists in all countries where antidepressants are widely used."

That was last year, well before this latest shooting. The warning signs were there, and they've been visible for a long time. Medical authorities can hardly say they are "shocked" by this violent behavior. After all, the same pattern of violence among antidepressant takers has been observed, documented and published in numerous previous cases.

How to stop the violence
Following this recent episode of violence, some Americans are renewing calls for gun control. But I ask, isn't it time we looked at antidepressants control? Why do we continue to drug up young people in this country with psychotropic drugs that we know are closely associated with violent outbursts?

Giving young men antidepressant drugs is, in my opinion, just like building silent timebombs and waiting around for one to suddenly go off. Chemically assaulting these young, troubled brains with powerful drugs -- while denying them real mental health solutions based on nutrition -- is the bread and butter of modern psychiatry, an industry that in my opinion has sold its soul to drug companies and now serves primarily as a glorified system of legalized drug dealers that preys upon children and teenagers.

That doesn't mean the doctor or psychiatrist who prescribed the antidepressants is directly responsible for the violence committed by Cho Seung Hui, but they may have very well played a key role in destabilizing the mind of a young man who was on the verge of insanity. You don't give another shot of whisky to a drunk driver, and you shouldn't prescribe antidepressants to troubled young men. Especially when there are weapons lying around.

(Click the cartoon for the full-sized version.)
How many more Americans will be killed by pharmaceuticals?
FDA-approved prescription drugs kill 100,000 Americans each year. Sadly, these 32 dead students at Virginia Tech now join the list of those killed by pharmaecutical side effects. And yet nobody in the mainstream media seems to be reporting about the drugs.

Don't you find it curious that when 100,000+ Americans are killed in their homes and beds each year, dying from heart attacks and strokes caused by pharmaceuticals, there's virtually no news coverage, but when mind-altering drugs cause a student to pick up guns and blow away 32 classmates, it's suddenly front-page news everywhere? The reason is because there's violence involved, and violence gets ratings for news organizations.

Another interesting point in all this is that a Korean diplomat contacted the Bush Administration to offer his condolences. Does this seem a bit strange to anyone else? The student was an American citizen, and he had lived in America for many years. In fact, he got put on antidepressant drugs in America, following the same fraudulent system of medicine that is uniquely American in the degree of harm it causes people. If anybody should be picking up the phone and apologizing, it's the U.S. diplomats who should be apologizing to the world for exporting death, disease and western medicine. Drug companies should be apologizing to the families of those who died, as well as to the family of the shooter. And the doctor or psychiatrist who prescribed these drugs to Cho Seung should be apologizing to everybody. Where is the apology from the drug companies who manufacture these chemicals that kill?

The question I'm asking is: Who's really at fault here? Sure, it's primarily the person who pulled the trigger. But it's also the companies and FDA regulators who allowed dangerous, violence-inducing chemicals to be prescribed to the person who pulled the trigger. "Chemically-induced violence," I call it. And antidepressant drugs make it so much easier for the shooter because they make people feel dissociated from reality. One of the Colombine shooters said it was all, "like a video game."

Or, as described in shocking detail in the PLoS Medicine study mentioned above, a 12 year old boy was being drugged with antidepressants when the following took place. As reported: (emphasis added)

The independent forensic report on the case notes CP as saying that that night: "something told me to shoot them". He had initially reported this to be hallucinations and then said he thought it was his own thoughts. When asked to specifically describe what the experience was like, he said it was "like echoes in my head saying 'kill, kill', like someone shouting in a cave". According to the forensic report, "He reported this began happening after he went to bed…He reported he had never considered harming his grandparents before and this was unlike anything he had previously experienced. He reported that the voices were coming from inside his head and they bothered him so much that he got up. He reported that the voices continued until he killed his grandparents. He reported that he couldn't control himself and reported the echoes stopped after he shot his grandparents. He set fire to the house but could not explain these actions saying the thoughts just popped up". He then took a vehicle and began driving but reported that he had no idea where he was going and that it all felt like a dream. He recalled asking the police about his grandparents after he was picked up because he was not sure if it had really happened or not.

My heart goes out to those who died... ALL of them
Yes, I mourn the dead. Do not mistake my skeptical thinking with a lack of compassion for those individuals and families traumatized by this event. But unlike most tabloid reporters, I don't end my story with the 32 dead at Virginia Tech. I mourn the 100,000 Americans killed every year by FDA-approved prescription drugs, and the millions more killed all around the world by pharmaceuticals, regardless of whether they were killed in a headline-grabbing act of extreme violence. And unless we restrict the use of antidepressant drugs and find a way to help young men achieve genuine mental health through nutrition, sunlight, and avoidance of toxic chemicals, mark my words: We will see more antidepressant-induced violence in America.

The shootings will not stop until the pills are banned.

You can bank on it. The next attempted shooting is likely only days or weeks away.

If we want to end this violence, we must end the chemical warfare being waged against the minds of our young men and children by the drug companies.

Study summary:
Here's the summary of the study, mentioned above, published in PLoS Medicine:

Recent regulatory warnings about adverse behavioural effects of antidepressants in susceptible individuals have raised the profile of these issues with clinicians, patients, and the public. We review available clinical trial data on paroxetine and sertraline and pharmacovigilance studies of paroxetine and fluoxetine, and outline a series of medico-legal cases involving antidepressants and violence.

Both clinical trial and pharmacovigilance data point to possible links between these drugs and violent behaviours. The legal cases outlined returned a variety of verdicts that may in part have stemmed from different judicial processes. Many jurisdictions appear not to have considered the possibility that a prescription drug may induce violence.

The association of antidepressant treatment with aggression and violence reported here calls for more clinical trial and epidemiological data to be made available and for good clinical descriptions of the adverse outcomes of treatment. Legal systems are likely to continue to be faced with cases of violence associated with the use of psychotropic drugs, and it may fall to the courts to demand access to currently unavailable data. The problem is international and calls for an international response.

Support the Health Freedom Protection Act

Imagine how much healthier we would be if, before leaping to purchase synthetic prescription drugs, we turned to foods and natural remedies as the first step toward solving our health problems. A bill has been introduced into the U.S. House of Representatives which would give consumers access to truthful, non-misleading health information; send a letter to support the Health Freedom Protection Act today!

Take Action

One more Mike Adams classic!!

Psychiatry and Big Pharma (comic)

Why we stay straight

I had promised to do some posting about hallucinagens and why, what, where, who and when ...

And then Blogger started playing up AGAIN. I've now beat the posting system once again.

And now, I found the one statement I was looking for to post FIRST

And here it is ...

We do these drugs and potions to access some heaven on earth.

Rob Brezsny says:
Its names are many; dreamtime, fourth dimension, underworlld, astral plane, collective unconsciousness, afterdeath state, eternity, bardo and Hades - to name a few.
-Pronoia, p. 204
Then he says:

The problem was that unlike the other techniques on the list, psychedelics bypassed my willpower. Their chemical battering simply smashed through the doors of my perception. No adroitness or craft was involved on my part. One of my meditation teachers referred to drug use, no matter how responsible, as "storming the kingdom of heaven through violence."
Pronoia, p. 205

So, I will be updating this at odd times, with different stuff.

I think it is an important issue. I think lots of people think the end times are coming. I think lots of people think "the ships" from Arcturus are coming. I think lots of people are not creating a NEW reality here on Earth, because they are lazing but think typing emails into groups is The Answer - and are still putting lethal and VIOLENT drugs into their systems (and that includes abundant amounts of alcohol, the liquid drug).

But if we are to be REAL shamans, visionaries, gateways, portals and multidimensionalists, we need to be listening to our INNER TEACHERS as our leaders, not our drug induced "real"ities.

The Birth of Big Pharma (comic)

The Church of Big Pharma (comic)

Commentary by Mike Adams, the creator of this cartoon:

The FDA has a long history of attacking and suppressing health freedoms (see our article, Tyranny in the USA: The true history of FDA raids on healers, vitamin shops and supplement companies), but did you know the agency might now be threatening religious freedom, too? Under the new CAM Guidelines issued by the FDA (see Health freedom action alert: FDA attempting to regulate supplements, herbs and juices as "drugs"), any items used in altering or enhancing the "function" of a living person are subject to regulation and control by the FDA. Items used in religious practices are NOT excluded from these guidelines.

Holy water, for example, could be regulated as a drug. Churches that continue to use Holy water in their services could be raided and accused of practicing medicine. Sound absurd? The FDA has already conducted an armed raid on one church (see "tyranny" article, above) and made no announcement that churches are exempt from FDA rule.

The crackers and grape juice used in Communion, which are tied to changes in the energy, function or spirituality of the person receiving them, might be regulated as drugs and require a prescription from a doctor. The Elder who annoints a member of the church with oil could be arrested and charged with practicing medicine, and church members who use rosaries to help heal themselves or others could be similarly arrested for using "unapproved medical devices."

Baptism could be regulated as a medical procedure involving "untested, unapproved drugs" (the water). Prayer cloths could also be regulated as "medical devices" and would require FDA approval before being used. In fact, any object, artifact or religious implement used in church services could be subject to FDA regulation and, essentially, regulated out of existence. Prayer wheels, shawls, candles, mandalas, crosses, beads and religious musical instruments could all be confiscated by the FDA as "unapproved medical devices," and anyone who sells such devices could be arrested and imprisoned for doing so.

If this sounds too hard to believe, I certainly understand your skepticism. No sane person would ever think that Holy water, rosaries, prayer oils and cloths could ever be considered drugs and medical devices, but then again, the FDA is not an agency that operates within the boundaries of sanity.

The FDA believes it is above God. Any person who has ever dealt with the FDA will confirm this. The arrogance of the FDA is so extreme that if the agency could find a way to actually regulate God, it would no doubt have done so by now. Because prayer heals people; physically, emotionally and spiritually. It helps people recover from surgery and it calms troubled minds. Prayer is good medicine, and because it is helpful to people and thus competes with conventional medicine, the FDA no doubt hopes to figure out a way to ban it entirely.

The new FDA CAM Guidelines

Welcome to the new world of FDA tyranny. The FDA recently declared war on natural medicine, and it went way beyond herbs and vitamins in naming things to regulate as drugs or medical devices. The agency is now targeting "energy medicine" and stating that any physical objects used in the practice of energy medicine will be regulated as medical devices. That is, unless the therapy in question is completely useless and has no effect on patients, in which case it will be happily allowed.

The FDA's ultimate game plan? Force everyone to rely on dangerous prescription medications by eliminating the competition. Anything that offers people genuine healing seems slated to be outlawed or regulated out of existence. It's a revenue strategy: Keep the American people sick, outlaw anything that prevents disease, and arrest anyone who dares challenge the system. Even if they are pastors or priests.

It's the new system of medical tyranny, brought to you courtesy of the marketing branch of Big Pharma, also known as the Food and Drug Administration.

These new rules are all part of the FDA's new CAM Guidelines (Complementary and Alternative Medicine). The guide defines a medical device as:

...an instrument, apparatus, implement, machine, contrivance, implant, in vitro reagent, or other similar or related article, including any component, part, or accessory which is... intended to affect the structure or any function of the body of man or other animals, and which does not achieve its primary intended purposes through chemical action within or on the body of man or other animals, and which is not dependent upon being metabolized for the achievement of its primary intended purposes.

In other words, any device that affects the "function" of a human being is now a medical device. So a priest who uses the symbol of Jesus Christ on a cross, for example, to "bless" a member of the church as part of a healing therapy is now practicing medicine with an unapproved medical device, and is subject to arrest and prosecution.

Skeptics and critics: be warned

Many people are skeptical about all this. They say the FDA would never raid a church and arrest its members. That would normally be a believable position to take, except for the fact that the FDA has already raided a church, arrested its leaders and confiscated its religious tools, claiming they were "medical devices." I've documented this raid in the articles mentioned above. It may not have happened to YOUR church, but if someone else's church isn't safe from the FDA, what's to say that yours is?

The FDA has clearly proven its willingness to smash down the doors of a sacred building, terrorize the members and staff, and confiscate everything it can find in order to disrupt church operations. As a result, all this is not mere conjecture. It is an established pattern of behavior by the FDA. This little-known history of the FDA is documented fact.

Perhaps the FDA will claim it would never again enforce its CAM guidelines in such a manner, but that's not the point. The new guidelines ALLOW the FDA to choose, at its own discretion, to enforce these rules at any time, with no prior notice. One day, prayer implements might be openly tolerated, and the very next day, your church could be raided at gunpoint and have its pastor or priest arrested by federal authorities, dragged away in handcuffs merely for blessing someone with Holy water or sacred oils.

Whether churches are allowed to continue practicing religious freedom is now left up to corrupt FDA "experts" who can decide, on a whim, to outlaw any religious object, liquid or oil by regulating them as drugs or medical devices. In other words, it is now the FDA, not God, that grants permission to conduct religious ceremony in the United States. And the FDA believes it overrides God.

Importantly, the idea of "faith" does not stand up to the FDA's so-called scientific scrutiny. So a church can never prove that Holy water actually works, or that prayer beads have any scientific merit, and therefore the FDA can declare them all to be "unscientific and unapproved" devices, further discrediting them. Faith is not a concept that is understood at the Food and Drug Administration (except, perhaps, faith in Big Pharma and the gullibility of the American consumer).

The FDA now has total control over your life

The FDA, you see, has crept into virtually every area of your life. The agency now controls your foods, beverages, cosmetics, medicines, herbs, functional foods, superfoods, and potentially even your religious practices. The fact that you are allowed to participate in religious services in the church of your choice this coming weekend is only allowed by the grace of the FDA. And if the FDA changes its mind, religious services involving water, oils, symbols, foods or beverages could one day be outlawed, with National Guard troops stationed outside churches all across the country, barring entry into these "crime scenes" where "unapproved medicine" was being used.

Even religious art -- paintings, statues, sculptures and stained glass windows -- could be siezed as "unapproved medical devices" if they are described as having any sort of therapeutic or healing effect on the people who look upon them.

Think it could never happen? You have no idea what the FDA is really capable of. To maintain its control over the people and the entire medical industry, the FDA seems willing to do whatever is necessary, including violating Freedom of Religion, Freedom of Speech, and any other freedom that gets in its way. It will violate federal laws, knowingly engage in fraudulent science, violate basic human ethics and morals, and use intimidation at every opportunity to protect its power over both industry and the public.

The agency has already proven itself willing and capable of engaging in such acts against the American people, and once natural medicine is largely shut down by the FDA, the Church may find itself the next target.

Think about it: With the FDA having declared war on natural medicine and attempting to virtually outlaw naturopathic practices altogether, natural healers will increasingly move into religious practice for protection. You will find more local churches springing up, where "blessed herbs" are given to members as part of a psychospiritual healing practice. The FDA, seeing that these churches are actually healing people with herbs, oils, homeopathy or functional foods, will target the churches and seek to shut them down. And when that happens, there's nothing that will stop this out-of-control federal agency from utterly destroying religious freedom and trapping the U.S. population under a medical monopoly dominated by FDA mafia bosses.

God save us from the FDA.

Because God is the next target. If you believe in religious freedom, then you cannot simultaneously support the FDA.

The Food and Drug Administration is, quite literally, the enemy of freedom (including religious freedom), and giving money to the drug companies by buying prescription medications is much like doing business with the devil. If we continue to support these industries, we will one day wake up and find ourselves imprisoned in a diseased, God-less nation of tyrants who prey upon degenerative disease to shore up their own power and profits.

Final challenge to the skeptics

For those who still can't believe all this and who think the FDA would never regulate religious items or attack religious freedoms, I have a direct challenge for you:

Show me the law that exempts churches from FDA regulation.

It's that simple. Show me the law. Because the reality of the situation is that you can't. There is no such law. And if one gets passed, then I'm starting my own healing church and handing out superfoods to all the members!

The truth is that there is nothing protecting religious organizations from the FDA. And if you're going to look at this issue with any degree of intellectual honesty, you've got to start with sobering fact. The FDA regulates the Church. And hence, the FDA believes its power supercedes that of God.

My promise: If you can find a law which clearly and openly states that churches are exempted from FDA regulation, I will print it on NewsTarget and issue a correction to this story. But barring any such discovery, I will continue to educate people on why the FDA is so dangerous, not merely to Freedom of Religion, but also to Freedom of Speech, health freedoms and even the freedom to save your own life using the system of medicine of your choice.

The FDA has done more to suppress the freedoms of the American people than any enemy combatant, terrorist group or "axis of evil." The real enemies to a free America are right here at home. It's time we recognized this serious threat and took action to eliminate it through desperately-needed reforms.

End FDA tyranny. Support health freedom.

The media and the pundits spend a lot of time focusing on the massive increase in compensation for top jobs.
But if we really care about strengthening the national economy, it's time to focus on the other side of the story -- what's happening in the low-wage labor market. In a report we've written (with Heather Boushey and Rachel Gragg), "Understanding the Low-Wage Labor Market in the United States," we find that more than 40 million jobs -- about 1 in 3 -- pay low wages.

What they don't want you to know about the coming oil crisis
Soaring fuel prices, rumours of winter power cuts, panic over the gas supply from Russia, abrupt changes to forecasts of crude output... Is something sinister going on? Yes, says former oil man Jeremy Leggett, and it's time to face the fact that the supplies we so depend on are going to run out
By Jeremy Leggett
Published: 20 January 2006

A spectre is haunting Europe - the spectre of an acute, civilisation-changing energy crisis. The latest wobble over disruptions to gas supplies from Russia is merely the latest in a series of reminders of how dependent our economies are on growing supplies of oil and gas. On Wednesday, Gazprom's deputy chairman was in London reassuring Britain that there would be no risk of disruption to British gas supplies in the fall-out from the ongoing spat between Russia and Ukraine over pricing. The very next day, temperatures in Moscow broke a 50-year record, plunging to minus 30C. Gas normally exported was diverted to the home front. Supplies to the West fell.
