George Ure prepares us for the next few months

Report from peoplenomics.com and halfpasthuman.com

The links are requested, but I like to remind people about them from time to time, anyhooo.

This is kinda like a Big Day WOW! thing for me. This report is always eagerly anticipated, like my own private HUGE box of Godiva (Prefer Leonida's) to eat and NOT get sick.
THIS, THIS is the latest report, but no great surprises here. Not REALLY. It's about time for Dick Cheney to "get his" .... that's just one thing. The anger toward the Bushistas? Totally deserved and my take on Scott McClellan is right on target. This is awful stuff he is saying and perhaps we can use it to push these WAR MONGERS behind bars where they BELONG, so richly.

Oh, and remember what I say about the idiocy of the financial house managers - THEY CANNOT REORGANIZE THEMSELVES. They cannot see that IF they would stop and think about the sustainable future that we want to build, there would be plenty of work!! PLENTY!! But they cannot think outside the "box" they've built for themselves with THEIR media (consumerist, warmongering), their value set (get more! Kill anyone in our way!), and their inability to use hearts, hands, hopes and health together at one time. Sad comment, but TRUE. Remember this .. I worked at the Wall Street law firms, at many many major banks, in the City of London, at the United Nations .. I KNOW how warped the values reallly are.
If you are new, and don't know about the linguistic runs, head over to halfpasthuman. FIND OUT. You will be glad you did - and tell George I sent you. You'll WANT to fork over that 40 bucks, you really will. It's about the best deal I know of.

Tickers & Time Tinkers

Things are at a serious enough point where the time monks at www.halfpasthuman.com have given me the green light to roll out a little more of the predictive linguistics so you can brace for what's ahead for the population of the USA in the next couple of months. If you repost any of this, a link to both this page and www.halfpasthuman.com is required. So fasten your seat belt, here's a kind of sneak peek under the covers as to where we are, where we're going, and 'what comes next.'

Let's start with the report Monday that vice president Cheney has been been undergoing heart treatments for an irregular rhythm.

This is something we've been expecting since it popped up in the predictive linguistics almost 6-months ago. From ALTA 0108 (Part Zero, May 2007), we seemed to get a sense that the health issues would begin around the time of some new disclosures about what it's like inside the Bush White House. Best we can figure, the coming 'tell all' book by Scott McClellan which was unveiled a couple of days back is just about a perfect temporal marker. Here's how it looked when reported as a linguistic probability mid May of this year:

"As the modelspace is progressed into December and the [results linger/limp_along] from the [power outage], the TPTB entity is showing that the [exposure (of the) hungry mouth/teeth] will [precipitate] a [wave/residual flow] of [bad luck/happenstance]. The data sets are under the influence of the [conflict] meta data layer, and are supported with [beasts] and [blood], as well as [crippled/lame] and [damaged tendons pulling]. This sub set has the supporting aspect/attributes with close links to the Press entity which point toward a [visibility] of the [warfare/strike] with TPTB causing an image of [rapacious/lust], and [hunger (for) all (things?/resources)] to emergence within the global mediastream. This is *not* good for TPTB entity and there will be a swift [reaction] and an [attempted purge] of some [offending voices/faces].

"There are several detail layers within the aspect/attributes which help to describe the situation immediately following the [exposure] of the [conflict]. These are pointing to a [bed-ridden/sick/ill] [government] with specific references to vice Dick Cheney. There are other sets going to [loss (of ability) to reunite], with special emphasis on the [fractured/split] being [permanent], and [without (possibility) of repair]. This area shows that the [broken alliances] will [leave stranded] (many) in [desolated plains/places]."
Plain as mud? At the archetype level, t the visibility of warfare/strife within the TPTB entity is well met by the McClellan book, and along about now, we have the vice president's health issues, and with the opening of the Middle East peace conference in Annapolis today, linguistically at least, one way to read the view from May of this year would be not to expect any reuniting as the fracture in that part of the world will be permanent and is past repair.
Time and Markets

Before returning to some of the linguistics for the markets in the coming weeks, let me first drag out a chart for you to ponder. I know the market futures are pointing to an up day in the market as we head into the opening, but the market popped to the up side yesterday too, and that didn't keep us from seeing nearly 240 points whacked off the Dow.

I've been closely watching how this market seems to be running parallel to the declines which followed the market peaks in 1929 and 1987, and as you'll see, the markets right now (today) are at an important 'fork in the road' because if we don't stop this decline in its tracks, the Fed and other PTB forces may not be able to prevent a wholesale rout over the next couple of weeks are events in the past (we think of these as 'self-seeding time cycles' but there's nothing in the literature, so just use the words to conjure up what that means) and events rhyme/echo to cause a next bigger down move.

Now, to return to the linguistics, from the ALTA 0508 report, there was a sense that although there would be a break in the 'panic' language that accrued around the end of August/early days of September, for a 72-day respite, the problems of the market would continue to build under the surface:
"As the modelspace is moved through the 'turn around' point of September 19th and beyond, the [blood letting] meme begins to accrue almost instantly. It gains strength through the Fall, and goes into its maximum emotional summation levels just as Fall transitions into Winter. Thereafter it fades rapidly as though 'once the beast is drained, nothing more to be said'. There are a number of temporal markers which appear in conjunction with the [blood letting] meme, and these include a [wave/tidal_wave] of [job loss] within [banks]. This area is also curiously involved with [visible] examples of people who [abandon] their [positions] as the [banks fail], and those who [stubbornly maintain attendance] even though their [former employer] (the bank) has failed. This [visibility] of the [bank employees wandering aimlessly] and [locked doors] represents the second level of the [employment crash] and the beginning of the [visibility] for some of the [new populations/self_organizing- collectives] to begin to appear in global mediastream.

The [progression of loss of money/currency] which is supported by bespoke [confidence] such that a better interpretation of the whole of the aspect/attribute set might be a [progression of the loss of confidence in currency/paper_debt]. As part of the other temporal markers for this period include [officials] who [make rash promises], and [other officials] who [act as though blind, rashly running (into) obstacles and crying out]. These last are apparently within the [currencies industry] which is another name for the Federal Reserve Bank/Central Bank...which we note is *not* a bank, and therefore is very likely the 'beast' being let of its blood over the course of this Fall. There are repeated references to much [stink] in the way of [talk/verbiage (from/of) officials] which is shown as [doing/accomplishing no things/results], and indeed actually [causing/initiating inter national arguments]. In the end, at the deepest level of support for this area, the [officials] are described as being [exhausted/deflated] and [weeping] and [broken] and [energy depleted]. At this level the cross links go more heavily to the Bushista entity where they are terminating in the main in areas which are controlled by, or participate in [revolution] as a meta data layer, *and* as the actively rising {ed note: near the end of Fall}, dominant aspect/attribute set within Bushista. Apparently lots of people will be very very very p*ssed off about losing all their 'power' and 'money' and will assign blame to the Bush White House."

Again, as you read the linguistics, it's important to read the words trying to sense the 'feel' or 'texture' of what the words paint. With this continuous 'turning' of the markets, we have to confess to being less than surprised when it was reported yesterday at Citibank may be cutting as many as an additional 45,000 people from its payroll, a headline number that's sort of buried by LameStreamMedia in the USA, but which has not escaped the notice of the Chinese media group at Xinhua...

As the September 15th 0508 Part Three continues, we also get a vision of what late winter and heading into spring will 'feel' like - revolutionary change in the wake of economic failure in general and the foreclosure crisis in particular:

"This area is also described within the Markets entity as the [point/time] in which [decisions] are [taken/made] which will begin to manifest as the [new populace] entity that we have been observing forming up in modelspace. Apparently the [fuzzy revolution] will begin to emerge into [visibility] this Fall as [squatting] in [blanks/empty houses] will take on a whole new meaning, and which in turn will begin to build [new collectives/communities] within the populace. This is mostly affecting of the Populace/USofA, but some of the themes will emerge from patterns in other parts of the planet. There are images of [people/crowds (who/which) squat/seize/appropriate] [golf courses], and [canals/other water-ways/sites] where they will [construct places of food production]. In several of the more visible [squatting incidents] there will be actual [battles] with [officialdom] which are shown as [proceeding/lasting] for several months."
When reading these linguistics, it's important to realize that 1) the language always seems to err on the side of the extreme and 2) it is often not an event, per se, that is referenced, but rather the emotional reactions of the planet/population as expressed in MainStreamMedia.

An example of this was the case a while back where linguistically we saw references to a 9.5 earthquake associated with Hawaii, which has very high emotional values, but it turned out to be a rumor reported in Hawaiian media that was passed along the beach and that rumor was what was picked up because of its emotional intensity.

So, just because the language goes to falling markets, collapse of paper assets, or even a bed-ridden vice president and failed Middle East talks, and problems for the upcoming shuttle mission, none of this means these events will happen, it's just that down at the archetype level of mass consciousness measured by scanning millions of web discussion groups, this is what the language shifts imply.

The time monks continue to work on tuning of the technology. The actual beginning of the release period came a couple of days ahead of schedule (McClellan's book references on the 20th) and so with each 'hit' linguistically, a few words/phrases can be tweaked this way or that to improve the temporal accuracy of forecasts.

If you're looking for something really, really big as a 'forecast', you might want to watch the upcoming Atlantis space shuttle mission. Here, we've got loads of linguistics that seem to foretell an Apollo 13-like "Oh my God, will they make it?" kind of event, but sadly, nothing specifically actionable in the way of preventative measures. Even if we had, who would believe such a garage based effort? We won't post that whole section publicly, until the events that seem to be foreshadowed to occur over the Atlantic occur (or don't), although this gives you some sense of it:
"This last has the descriptor set of [unknown object] as a place holder or 'variable' in the programming sense of the word. The data sets are indicating, and we are predicting from them, that an 'unknown at this time' object will be [dislodged] and it will be the proximate cause of a [disastrous unfolding/process]."
Hopefully, that's just an artifact of the processing, which with more than 200 operations on millions of half page snips is to be expected. But, in a sense, the lack of minute details about the future may be a blessing. If we could say "stay off that street corner tomorrow at 2:53 PM because a bus will go out of control" the accuracy be such that mere possession of it would make some of us outright expendable, as people hungry for power will usually stop at nothing. On the other hand, seeing only the broad brush of events before they happen is useful in terms of 'bracing' for whatever comes next. The disclosures to come about some of the presidential wannabe's is another area to be watching. January-ish.

To return to our economic focus, the problems of the dollar (from ALTA 0708 Part 0, 10/21/2007) continue to center on the troubled Buck:
"The longer term value sets remaining from ALTA series 0508 continued to accrue supporting sets under the [millions of small particles]. It now appears that while there are certainly [housing] related inferences within the data set, the *more* likely interpretation is now for either [dollars] or [credit cards]. There are several large sub sets supporting both aspects within the [millions of small particles] new accretions. These data sets of [credit cards] and [dollars] are perhaps *both* legitimately represented. The interpretation of both would forecast a [fall default] wave on credit cards, and this would come in conjunction with a huge [repatriation] wave of [dollars] back to the [usofa]. How this [repatriation] might occur is less clearly described. There are hints that a [complete/total] [abandonment] of [us treasury] and other paper debt instruments would in effect be [repatriation] of [dollars], and would certainly be in the [millions] levels. Further there are
also pointers toward a [forced purchase] which involves [metals/commodities] and another which involves [property] of an unknown type. In both cases these are seen as [repatriating] [millions] of [dollars] back into the system.

There are recent accretions from the immediacy values of 0708 which also are going to the idea of [millions of dollars] [returning home]. This is cross linked internally with 2/two aspect sets of interest. The first these is terminating in [housing] and seems to be pointing to yet another wave of [foreclosures] and other [abandonment] issues which will begin to surface in late October/early November. Then in conjunction with aspect/attributes from 0508, longer term values sets, the other cross link is pointing toward a [mutiny/insurrection] which is directly held within the Markets entity. This area has very extensive cross links over to the Bushista entity, but is still holding its mass entirely within the Markets entity linguistic structure. The [mutiny/insurrection] values have a very high [visibility] sums, and therefore are expected to be covered by the global mediastream. Further, the [mutiny/insurrection] is apparently to surface as we move into the release period
after November 22. In this case we note that the Markets entity is forecasting that the [mutiny] will [topple/fall] the [markets] in December of this year. An additional and possible interpretation for the [mutiny] area also includes [retreat]. The support for this area includes [under/pressured by] and [disparate/separated forces]. There are also [iraq] values directly held as well as extensive cross links over to the [failure] sub set within Bushista. In either interpretation, the impact will hasten the [degradation/death] of the [usofa dollar], and have very serious [dampening] impact on the [markets] for [paper] originating in the [usofa].

Not that there won't be plenty of [drama], [heartache], and vast amounts of [increasing tensions] in the [markets] prior to December's 'release language episode'."
So on that note, I can only tell you that while we have hope that a major 'crash' kind of event won't happen in December, down in that preconscious place where people don't spend much time (it is very scary!) there are shifts in the archetypes that seem to be sending us warnings that would fit with precipitous economic decline. Is it just a Big Fear or Real Deal? We're about to find out...

Having posted this larger context of future events, it's a little repetitious for me to go through a bunch of links about what's going on today - or more accurately, what happened yesterday that's coming out the news pipes today.

Most of the broad brush of things is fairly clear, and except for filling in a specific event detail (like the precise Consumer Confidence number at 10 AM Eastern today, or existing home sales about the same time) we can just go ahead and skip ahead to our "Coping" section so we can get to the actionable work: collecting ideas for how to be ready for what may...

Some headlines this morning go to the idea that now that the market has done a 10% correction everything is set for a rally. Here's a "Duh!" for you: Although a 200 point rally would be widely reported and hyped, if it comes on the heels of a 237 point drop the previous day, it's only a dead-cat bounce on steroids, but then again, I guess you have probably already figured that...

Coping: Great ideas
Lots of emails coming in, so here are some snips to save. Let's start with how to pass the time...
"For your upcoming coping page, something most folks won't think of, is having on hand a few decks of cards, cribbage and backgammon boards, dominoes, and non-electronic board games (you know, old-fashioned Parcheesi, Monopoly, Scrabble, etc). The stress relief and competition of playing games (or sports) can make hard times seem a little easier. Also birth control - can't think of anything more inconvenient than becoming parents in the middle of an apocalypse."
And no, playing cards for profit at someone else's expense is not a proper use of cards. Depression, or not.

Next, let's talk about fireless cooking.
"George,
I have done two published articles on “Fireless Cooking” (cooking with retained heat ), modern-day haybox cooking, bearing similarity to today’s posting about cooking rice in a pot that has had the fire turned off except that an insulated container is used to hold in the heat the pot has received. I have done fireless cooking many hundreds of times over 30 years in a variety of vessels and it works great. It is a way to potentially save a considerable amount of fuel in a crisis because most foods cook with no additional heat input beyond the point where boiling is achieved. I

www.solarcooking.org covers “fireless cooking” and every conceivable aspect of solar cooking, too, for those who might want to build their own solar cooker from scratch for a couple dollars. This is a huge website.

www.thermos.com carries Nissan vacuum products and they make the “Cook and Carry System” Fireless Cooker which I’ve personally used for 15 years. It is tremendously efficient and compact; has a 5 quart capacity. They had 4 sizes at one time but now just sell the one at $125. Their vacuum technology is head-and-shoulders the best in my testing. Their wide-mouthed thermos bottles make the best fireless cookers of this sort esp. where a portable unit is desired. Just pour in the boiling hot ingredients, seal it up and give it 2 to 2-1/2 hours for most foods (beans take longer and may benefit from a reheat.)

Another thing Aprovecho (www.aprovecho.org) has done work on is the “Rocket Stove”, a small cook stove that uses ridiculously small amounts of wood to cook a family’s food. See 40 pp. tech paper off their home page that also has a section on “Fireless Cooking”.

A lot of the best technology in the above areas is directed to Third World countries but it would behoove us to pay attention while the internet is readily available.
The commercially-produced “Zipp Stove” ( a wood-burning camping stove in two sizes from www.zzstove.com ) accomplishes a similar feat for a few bucks but the smaller unit requires a battery to power its draft fan. But I would still recommend knowing how to make and use a Rocket Stove if I lived where fuel might be an issue, which may be everywhere with the eco-nazis on the loose.
Another reader has thoughts about this, too:
The item about cooking rice in a pot (heat off) reminded me of "Thermos cooking". In short, you put whatever you're cooking in a pot, add water, and bring to a boil. Then pour it all into a vacuum insulated bottle. In a few hours your meal is ready. I tried it several years ago and it works great. For more info see: http://www.homestead.com/peaceandcarrots/Thermoscookinglinks.html
Home Stocking:
"Have your readers look at Sprouts... I've been buying the following in bulk.
http://www.wheatgrasskits.com/sprouting/5_part_salad_mix.htm 5 part salad mix Crunchy lentil fest and many others for variety
Then Spirulina, Grits, multi-grain cereal, Rice and seeds.
I have Chickens and Rabbits and then guns for protection..
Its funny how just about everyone at my work say that I can't stock pile enough for all of them and I just kindly remind them that I stock for my family and a select few and then bullets for the rest... They think I'm joking..."
And a question:
"I looked at the site about the 100 things that go missing first from a Sarajavo survivor.... Excellent reference list but #14 and #15 are missing.
Wonder what they were? They were near the top of the listings too."
Hmmm...haven't had time to look yet.... more tomorrow...

No Country for OLD MEN- Crosspost - Matt Janovic

I have a different take on this movie than Matt, who's profound and masterful review appears below. Although it has spoilers, it doesn't have any more spoilers than you will find out looking on the internet for reviews of this movie before you plunk down your bucks to see it. So go ahead! READ IT.

It's no accident that this film comes out NOW, andto my mind it's a parable for our times about BuZh&Co and the others who are trying desperately to put into America's psyche a collective willfull pursuit of EVIL.

That new, particular form of psychopath which seems to be running America is carefully dissected in Cormac MacCarthy's book and it seems only fitting it we take a cinematic look at our new archetypes on a big screen as things unfold before the apocolyptic peak oil phase takes place.

Perhaps since the explostion of Fat Boy, the huge, unnecessary droppage of bombs on Japan in WWII, there has been a profound lack of role modelling (McCarthy goes out of his way to say the Sheriff has had an upstanding father) in America. The death of people for no earthly reason, not justified by law or threat, has reached a high peak of insanity now. McCarthy and the Coen Brothers are extremely stark in depicting just how far that insanity has gone.

For the generation of males who served in the US Military, just what constitutes sane behaviour has been confusing at best, insane at worst. In fact, the Military Code of Conduct has been tossed out the window in their lifetimes thus creating a world where living life under threat of capricious evil is an everyday day occurence. Servicemen are told to toss out their own conscience and follow orders given by men with no consience, men who cannot even justify rationally why torture should meted out.

That damned pursuit of money, property and prestige reigns, but something far more odious has snuck in as a bedrock value - that to just randomly select whether a person lives or dies is obvious at the highest levels. . Values have become outmoded, service to the people outmoded and a general sense of malaise and living with EVIL become an accepted historical meme. And the movie is quite good at showing where all these leads.

As in "real life", real time America the women have been marginalized. Those who oppose the evil on the American political landscape are protrayed as sick and dysfunctional - or worse. The Cindy Sheehans, the Code Pink women of conviction are incarcerated although they remain feisty. The women in the film are depictions of the new archetypes. Only in Moss' wife we see the utter intent of an American Woman to refuse to let the insantity force itself into her reality.

What we see develop in Carrie Moss' life as she tried to save Moss from his own folly and enter a protective relationship by appealing to (Tommy Lee Jones) the sheriff for his help becomes exceptionally poignant. He cannot help her. She is, like the citizens of New Orleans, on her own. Scottish Kelly Macdonald has been selected for this role which an ironic twist. And it is fortunate to have Jones in his role as we have seen him so many times as American Hero in films that we are totally into believing the things we does, feels and thinks, that his eventual lapse into Dreamland to cope is totally believable. He's been left with only his soul identification to cope.

I saw the film in Canada and watched the stunned Canadian audience clutch at each other for support afterward. No one in the women's room afterward would comment; it was that we had taken in a too hugely American phenomena. Matt saw it in the belly of the beast. It's hard to take that movie in when what is so obvious while watching it is that you have just seen why arguing for human rights or compassion has become passe in your life time with the evil lurking around over your shoulder.

I am from the same neighborhood as the Coen Brothers in Minnesota, we are the same age and got roughly the same education program. I anticipate all their films as no others. This is their masterpiece. I hope that they get to direct Cormac McCarthy's The Road, now that would also be awesome.

Cormac McCarthy is the most concerned and articulate storyteller of our time. If you see the movie I am sure you'll agree.

No Country for Old Men (2007) review

WARNING: SPOILERS. DO NOT READ THIS REVIEW IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THIS FILM

'I b'want my mony ba-aaack!' blared the twenty-something social retards behind me as the lights went up after the poignant ending of the Coen brothers' newest masterpiece. 'Who's got my money?!' croaked another. Why, Kerasotes theaters, Miramax, Paramount, and the Coen brothers do, you dumb assholes. 'No Country for an Old Man,' based on the excellent 2003 novel (published 2005) by Cormack McCarthy is an incredible period piece that takes-place in a small town in the Southwest of Texas in 1980, but it could have been a story set anywhere, at any time. Most Americans thought correctly that this film is a real potboiler--a crime movie, a suspense thriller--but it really is that and so much more.

Because it's so much more, the ending is going to stun and upset many viewers, which was worth the price-of-admission alone for this writer. It's also going to anger many of you because you aren't paying any attention to what it's really saying: that there's no escaping fate once you become involved in a spiraling cycle-of-violence, and that only lady luck will allow you a way out. The Cormack McCarthy Society's website has an excerpt from publisher Alfred A. Knopf's original press release for the book from 2005:

Set along a bloody frontier in our own time, this is Cormac McCarthy’s first novel since Cities of the Plain completed his acclaimed, bestselling Border Trilogy.

Llewelyn Moss, hunting antelope near the Rio Grande, instead finds men shot dead, a load of heroin, and over two million in cash. Packing the money out, he knows, will change everything. But only after two more men are murdered does a victim’s burning car lead Sheriff Bell to the carnage out in the desert, and he soon realizes that Moss and his young wife are in desperate need of protection. One party in the failed transaction hires an ex-Special Forces officer to defend his interests against a mesmerizing freelancer, while on either side are men accustomed to spectacular violence and mayhem. The pursuit stretches along and across the border, each participant seemingly determined to answer what one asks another: How does a man decide in what order to abandon his life?

A harrowing story of a war society wages on itself, an enduring meditation on the ties of love and blood and duty that inform lives and shape destinies, and a novel of extraordinary resonance and power. http://www.cormacmccarthy.com/works/nocountryforoldmen.htm

And so, the film begins with a few murders by Mexican hit man, Anton Chigurh, played by the show- stealing Spanish actor, Javier Bardem who already has an incredible acting career, but will cement it thanks to this shocking performance of a 'man' who kills for almost any reason at all. Offending his philosophy and principles is literally tempting fate itself. The only other hired killer that I can recall in cinema like him is 'Angel Eyes' (played just as well by the legendary Lee Van Cleef) in Sergio Leone's 'The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly,' a killer who has his own set-of-rules and principles ('I always see a job through.'). Chigurh isn't really meant to be a representation of a human being. Ultimately, he's more of a force, a reminder of where America has been. He is fate, and he is death. As Sheriff Bell says, 'He's a ghost,' a ghost from the past. There is no reasoning with him once he's decided that it's your time, but he makes random exceptions by letting some of his victims call on a coin-toss. Only one of them wins the call, and not-so-ironically, he's an old man. An old woman is also spared. It's as if the Indian wars never ended along the American-Mexican border...

Chigurh's terrifying M.O. is to murder his sometimes random victims with the air-gun used to fire a steel-rod through-the-skull of cattle, so he's a very menacing sight carrying a tank with a hose-and-gun attachment, alternating with a silencer-equipped shotgun. Enter Llewelyn Moss, played perfectly by Josh Brolin who does a great job portraying the dunderheaded trailer-trash redneck who's definitely had some poor male role-models in his past. Moss is out hunting those antelope on the unluckiest day of his short life when he sees the aftermath of devastating shootout between two-groups of Mexican heroin-smugglers (one side who most certainly represent elements of the Mexican Mafia Family) through his binoculars. His story is almost a parody of the great American folk song, 'Home on the Range.' http://www.kansasheritage.org/kssights/home/official.htm

The macho redneck Llewelyn (he was in Nam, too) gets closer to the kill-site and finds several keys of brown heroin (a favorite cash-staple of the Mafia Family) and a case filled with $2 million American. He also discovers one of the Mexican bandits alive, who begs him for 'Agua, por favor.' He doesn't have any, but as he tells his trailer-trash wife, 'I'm going to do something stupid,' and goes back to bring the dying man some water. This is a movie about characters, character itself, the inescapable fate that we're all prone to, and the wisdom of a cautious and peaceful existence. It's also about how violence is cyclical and eternal, that it is to be avoided at almost any cost, and that it has no real meaning in-the-end. As the tag-line states, 'There Are No Clean Getaways.' There aren't any from our own history as a nation either, and fate becomes predetermined by our past actions. This is a very difficult concept for most Americans to swallow, we tend to believe that we control our fates 100%--McCarthy's book and the Coen brothers' interpretation of it turn this sacred national conceit on-its-head.

Eventually, the forces of law and order begin to notice all the killings in the person of Sheriff Ed Tom Bell (another fine performance by the great Tommy Lee Jones), who has told all his peers that he's retiring soon. It isn't hard to understand why: throughout the film we get anecdotes of his great-grandfather who was a lawman, slaughtered by Mexican desperadoes in 1909 along the border, and the death of his father in his forties in a similar situation. Bell doesn't want his life to end that way. Who would? Only a fool who thinks he's invincible, as most young men tend to, and this is why we get some comments from Bell about his early-days as a 25-year-old Sheriff. He no-longer feels invincible at all. And that's where the title really resonates with meaning: in our old age, we're supposed to have learned something, and Sheriff Bell is the man who finally has. America is still a young, violent nation that hasn't grown-up, and is still fighting the inevitable. For these same reasons, the audience I watched this film with rejected the Bell character and the ending, which was predictable here in dumbo Middle America Indiana. It hurts to think.

Bell's looked back at his family's experiences with violence and our ongoing social war, and he's had enough of it all. It's likely he knows that a whole lot of bad laws have raised-the-stakes and created a lot of the violence he's witnessed throughout his time as a Sheriff. Who would know this better? For many audiences expecting that easy-fix where the lawman comes in and 'fixes' everything once-and-for-all, this is unacceptable, yet it's the cold, hard truth of the matter. 'Good' and the law do not always prevail, and iniquity and injustice are eternal. Enter the 'other-side' of the heroin-transaction: the corrupt suits in an upscale El Paso business suite who hire fix-it man Carson Wells (Woody Harrelson in a wonderfully subdued & poignant performance) to go get the money from Llewelyn Moss. He doesn't fare any better than all the other victims of Chigurh, and his time as a crooked bounty hunter is over. Many innocents die along-the-way, including Moss's wife and mother-in-law.

Like Chigurh, Wells locates Moss very quickly, yet Moss continues to believe that he can somehow escape the whole mess with the money, and that his life can remain the same. You get the idea that both Wells and Chigurh have both done the same thing that Moss has, as they know his every move so well. What we're watching in Moss is the death of the American ideal of the 'rugged individual,' and the stupidity of machismo--that he can 'make things right,' and that he can 'win.' He refuses to admit to himself that he's in a game where there is no victory. It's hard to imagine a more timely message while our troops are bogged-down in war that is not only unwinnable, but the creation of a mindless Texan-wannabe, a phony cowboy who appealed to the same demographic that Moss hails from.

Well-past halfway into the film, we're led to believe the story is about Moss. Just as Hitchcock did in 'Psycho,' we're deprived of this idea upon Sheriff Bell's discovery of Moss's body at a sleazy motel crime scene. The story itself is about the themes: of fate, the decisions that determine the fate of individuals, and the aftermath. History, then, must play its role in all of this, as told in the family anecdotes by Sheriff Bell. That aftermath of these kind of stories frequently means a bloody death. Through the Sheriff's subplot and that of the Harrelson character, we learn that both men understand Chigurh, what he represents, and who and what he is, and they understand it very well. This is the reason why they're the first characters to display fear over Chigurh, and we have to assume they've seen his handiwork before. Walking away from trouble is usually the best path when it comes to people like Chigurh, but when it's your time, it's your time. In the Cormack McCarthy's and the Coen brothers' version of our universe (the real one), there are no answers or meaning to most of the mayhem. It simply is.

Sibelgate: Bill Clinton and G.H.W. Bush Both Partnered with Canadian Mining Cos. in 3rd World Conflict areas

As information progresses, my OTHER blog is way behind in keeping up with developments, but if you go there, www.lowlevelradiation.blogspot.com you will at least see a clear pattern of the plutocracy at work to keep the nukes "on the table".

The profitability for uranium speculation is ENORMOUS and it is done under the cover of "looking for copper" ..

I wish I had six pairs of hands so I could blog ALL the information that is coming to light as we go through the SECRETS COMING TO LIGHT meme - as let's face it! There is PLENTY coming out. We continue detoxifying every dirty little secret this year. Everything must come into the light.

And something else comes to mind to tell you as you read this - Barrick Gold's supposed lies about the gold in Indonesia? Well, truth do tell it was and IS there, but "they" decided on a better, more covert way of getting it out.

The NYT reports today that Former President Bill Clinton operates a foundation with Canadian mining magnate, Frank Giustra. The two are reported to have worked together to seal a uranium mining deal with the President of Kazakhstan, who is accused of human rights violations. Clinton, who runs a non-profit foundation with Giustra, is not said to have personally gained from this transaction.

Meanwhile, the Times has failed to provide some important context. Former President G.H.W. Bush, Sr. has made a personal fortune doing business with Barrick Gold, a huge Canadian mining company affiliated with the Carlyle Group. Both former Presidents have, in their different ways, tapped into the $USD trillion global mining industry, based largely in Canada, which operates in the most unstable and underdeveloped regions of the world.

Giustra is a relative newcomer to the global mining business, while Barrick Gold is one of the very largest and oldest global extraction companies, and has long-established ties with conservative politicians in Canada and the United States. Both outfits do business with private military contractors and corrupt Third World dictatorships. These companies are major contributors to "charitable" and "development" agencies that operate in mineral-rich areas of Africa, South America, and Central Asia.

Giustra has partnered with Clinton as a major contributor to a charity that operates in the Third World. This is not really a new story. See, http://www.stockhouse.ca/bullboards/viewmessage.asp?no=...

Former U.S. president Bill Clinton has teamed with a reclusive Vancouver mining financier and a Mexican billionaire to create a massive charitable effort that will see the mining industry channel funds to fight poverty in areas affected by the resource sector.

Frank Giustra, who has made millions for himself and investors financing mining deals, has pledged $100-million (U.S) and half of all his future earnings from the mining business towards the Clinton Giustra Sustainable Growth Initiative (CGSGI). Carlos Slim Helu, a Mexican billionaire who made his fortune in the telecom industry has also committed $100-million towards the effort, which will initially focus on alleviating poverty and fostering growth in Latin America.

“I firmly believe that this innovative partnership between the Clinton Foundation and the business community – and the mining industry in particular – will have a profound and positive effect on the lives of countless people in the developing world during the months and years ahead,” Mr. Giustra, the 49-year-old son of a Sudbury miner and former head of Yorkton Securities, said in a statement.

Several large mining companies including zinc and copper producer Teck Cominco Ltd. and gold miner Newmont Mining Corp. have signed on as partners to the charity group which plans to expand its efforts beyond Latin America to other parts of the developing world.

As well, mining focused Canadian brokerage firms including Canaccord Capital Inc. and GMP Securities LP have committed to the fund and will direct a percentage of their resource-related commission fees to the CGSCI.

Toronto law firm Cassels Brock has promised a financial contribution as well as a pledge to provide legal services at no charge. The Toronto Stock Exchange and London Stock Exchange are also supporting the initiative.

SNIP

Although many mining companies have spent millions on funding sustainable development, education, health and infrastructure in countries and areas in which they operate, the industry still gets a bum rap, according to Newmont Mining board member and former company president Pierre Lassonde.

“What I find absolutely genius in the move here is that what has done is he has got Bill Clinton to more or less, be the spokesman for resource development. That is momentous,” Mr. Lassonde said in an interview.

In the past, some mining companies have faced severe criticism for exploiting resources in developing nations and giving little back to the community. In some cases, mining has caused environmental damage that has made some areas uninhabitable or been linked to illnesses in local people.

The CGSGI said it intends to work with local leaders to address, social, economic and environmental issues in a cost-effective and sustainable manner. The Clinton Foundation will act as the “implementing partner” linking the resource industry with local communities in the developing world.

SNIP

While the CGSGI may be the single largest charity initiative by the mining sector, Mr. Giustra's contribution follows previous large-scale donations by other industry heavyweights from Canada.

Mr. Lassonde has donated millions through his own active philanthropic efforts as has his Franco-Nevada co-founder and long-time business partner Seymour Schulich. Mr. Schulich recently gave $22.5-million (Canadian) to the Technion-Israel Institute, which is naming its chemistry department after him. His past gifts have included $27-million to York University's school of business and $20-million to McGill University's faculty of music. Barrick Gold co-founder Peter Munk gave almost $61-million to charity last year alone including $37-million to the Toronto General Hospital, $18.5-million to the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology and $5-million to the University of Toronto.

According to this 2006 article by Keith Harmon Snow and David Barouski, Barrick Gold is connected to both Bush and, less directly, with close Clinton associates in mineral extraction operations in some of the bloodiest areas in Africa. See, http://www.zmag.org/content/showarticle.cfm?ItemID=9832

Some people have lauded great progress in the exposure of illegal mining in DRC, particularly by the group Human Rights Watch (HRW), whose 2005 report “The Curse of Gold” exposed Ugandan officials and multi-national corporations smuggling gold through local rebel militias. The cited rebel groups were the Nationalist and Integrationist Front (FNI) and the People’s Armed Forces of Congo (FAPC). The western companies targeted by HRW were Anglo-Ashanti Gold, a company headquartered in South Africa, and Metalor, a Swedish firm. The HRW report failed to mention that Anglo-Ashanti is partnered with Anglo-American, owned by the Oppenheimer family and partnered with Canada-based Barrick Gold described below (3). London-based Anglo-American Plc. owns a 45% share in DeBeers, another Oppenheimer company that is infamous for its near monopoly of the international diamond industry (4). Sir Mark Moody-Stuart, a director of Anglo-American, is a director of Royal Dutch/Shell and a member of U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan’s Advisory Board (5). The report also suppressed the most damning evidence discovered by HRW researchers—that Anglo-Ashanti sent its top lawyers into eastern DRC to aid rebel militia leaders arrested there.

Several multi-national mining companies have rarely if ever been mentioned in any human rights report. One is Barrick Gold, who operates in the town of Watsa, northwest of the town of Bunia, located in the most violent corner of the Congo. The Ugandan People’s Defense Force (UPDF) controlled the mines intermittently during the war. Officials in Bunia claim that Barrick executives flew into the region, with UPDF and RPF (Rwanda Patriotic Front) escorts, to survey and inspect their mining interests (6).

George H.W. Bush served as a paid advisor for Barrick Gold. Barrick directors include: Brian Mulroney, former PM of Canada; Edward Neys, former U.S. ambassador to Canada and chairman of the private PR firm Burston-Marsteller; former U.S. Senator Howard Baker; J. Trevor Eyton, a member of the Canadian Senate; and Vernon Jordan, one of Bill Clinton’s lawyers (7).

Barrick Gold is one of the client companies of Andrew Young’s Goodworks International lobbying firm. Andrew Young is the former Mayor of Atlanta, and a key organizer of the U.S.-Uganda Friendship Council. Young was chosen by President Clinton to chair the Southern Africa Enterprise Development Fund in October 1994. Goodworks’ clients—or business partners in some cases—include Coke, Chevron-Texaco, Monsanto, and the governments of Angola and Nigeria (note weapons transfers from Nigeria cited below). Young is a director of Cox Communications and Archers Daniels Midland—the “supermarket to the world” and National Public Radio sponsor whose directors include Brian Mulroney (Barrick) and G. Allen Andreas, a member of the European Advisory Board of The Carlyle Group.

Barrick Gold’s mining partners have included Adastra Mining—formerly named America Mineral Fields (AMFI, AMX, other names), formerly based in Hope, Arkansas, Bill Clinton’s hometown. Adastra had close ties with Lazare Kaplan International Inc., the largest diamond brokerage firm in the U.S., whose president, Maurice Tempelsman, has been an advisor on African Affairs to the U.S. Government and has been the U.S. Honorary Consul General of the Congo since 1977 (8).

Maurice Tempelsman accompanied Bill Clinton during his African tour in 1998, and he sails with the Clintons off Martha’s Vineyard.
He serves on the International Advisory Council of the American Stock Exchange, and is a director of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, a
”scientific” front for his offshore diamond mining—raking the seabed into oblivion.

Adastra also purchased a diamond concession on the Congolese-Angolan border from the Belgian mercenary firm International Defense and Security (1998), and currently has cobalt and copper concessions in Congo’s Katanga (Shaba) province (9). Adastra is a member of the Corporate Council on Africa, along with Goodworks, Halliburton, Chevron-Texaco, Northrop Grumman, GE, Boeing, Raytheon, Bechtel and SAIC—the latter two being secretive intelligence and defense entities involved in classified and supra-governmental “black” projects.

In April 1997, Jean-Ramon Boulle, a co-founder of Adastra (then AMFI), received a $1 billion dollar deal for mines in the Congo at Kolwezi (cobalt) and Kipushi (zinc) from Laurent Kabila’s Alliance of Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Zaire (ADFL) before they were even officially in power. The ADFL were even allowed to use Boulle’s private jet (10). Meanwhile, directors of Adastra are also former directors of Anglo-American (11). Other Clinton-connected founders of Adastra include Michael McMurrough and Robert Friedland—both involved in shady, criminal, offshore businesses in Indonesia, Africa, Burma and the Americas (12).

Barrick sub-contracts to Caleb International, who has also partnered with Adastra in the past. Caleb is run by Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni’s half-brother Salim Saleh, the former acting General of the UPDF. When Uganda withdrew from the Congo in 2002 following a so-called “peace” agreement, Saleh began training paramilitary groups to act as Ugandan proxies to sustain the flow of minerals into Uganda (13).

Katanga’s militias and racketeering are connected to criminal networks of businessmen, including Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe, Billy Rautenbach, John Bredenkamp, and Marc Rich. U.S. diamond magnate Maurice Tempelsman has profited from Katanga concessions since the Kennedy era. Lawrence Devlin, the old CIA station chief of Lubumbashi under Eisenhower, maintained Tempelsman’s criminal rackets with direct ties to Zaire’s former President Mobutu, and was subsequently employed by Tempelsman (16).

Coltan ore is widely used in the aerospace and electronics industries for capacitors, superconductors and transistors after it is refined to tantalum. The U.S. is entirely dependant on foreign sources for tantalum, an enabling technology for capacitors essential to aerospace weaponry and every pager, cell phone, computer, VCR, CD player, P.D.A. and TV. U.S. import records show a dramatic jump of purchases from Rwanda and Uganda during the time they were smuggling tantalum and cobalt out of the Congo.

SNIP

Bechtel, a U.S. aerospace & construction company, provided satellite maps of reconnaissance photos of Mobutu’s troops for the ADFL invasion of Congo in 1996; they also created infrared maps of the Congo’s mineral deposits (22). The Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF), led by Paul Kagame, the current Rwandan President graduate of the U.S. Army officers school at Fort Leavenworth, used Bechtel’s NASA maps to locate Rwandan Hutu civilians that fled the cataclysm in Rwanda in 1994. An estimated 800,000 refugees were hunted down and killed in the Congo’s forests (23). Bechtel’s friends in high places include former Secretary of State George Shultz (Board of Directors), former Secretary of Defense Casper Weinberger (Bechtel Counsel) and retired U.S.M.C. general Jack Sheehan (Senior Vice President), who is also a member of the Defense Policy Board at the Pentagon (24). Riley P. Bechtel is on the Board of J.P. Morgan (25). Bechtel’s Nexant Company is the prime contractor on the Uganda-Kenya pipeline project, believed to ultimately facilitate petroleum transport out of the Semliki Basin of Lake Albert.

The U.N. Panel of Experts named New England-based Cabot Co. for conducting unethical business practices (26). Cabot is one of the largest tantalum processors in the world. The current Deputy Director of the U.S. Treasury, Samuel Bodman, was CEO and chairman of the board for Cabot from 1997-2001 (27). Current Director John H. McArthur is a Senior Advisor to Paul Wolfowitz at the World Bank (28).

Perhaps reflecting a larger reality about global business, these interlocking mining and charitable operations make Bill Clinton and G.H.W. Bush both competitors and business partners.

Refining it must be more so.

From the NYT article:

After Mining Deal, Financier Donated to Clinton

By JO BECKER and DON VAN NATTA Jr.
Published: January 31, 2008

Late on Sept. 6, 2005, a private plane carrying the Canadian mining financier Frank Giustra touched down in Almaty, a ruggedly picturesque city in southeast Kazakhstan. Several hundred miles to the west a fortune awaited: highly coveted deposits of uranium that could fuel nuclear reactors around the world. And Mr. Giustra was in hot pursuit of an exclusive deal to tap them.

Unlike more established competitors, Mr. Giustra was a newcomer to uranium mining in Kazakhstan, a former Soviet republic. But what his fledgling company lacked in experience, it made up for in connections. Accompanying Mr. Giustra on his luxuriously appointed MD-87 jet that day was a former president of the United States, Bill Clinton.

Upon landing on the first stop of a three-country philanthropic tour, the two men were whisked off to share a sumptuous midnight banquet with Kazakhstan’s president, Nursultan A. Nazarbayev, whose 19-year stranglehold on the country has all but quashed political dissent.

Mr. Nazarbayev walked away from the table with a propaganda coup, after Mr. Clinton expressed enthusiastic support for the Kazakh leader’s bid to head an international organization that monitors elections and supports democracy. Mr. Clinton’s public declaration undercut both American foreign policy and sharp criticism of Kazakhstan’s poor human rights record by, among others, Mr. Clinton’s wife, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York.

Within two days, corporate records show that Mr. Giustra also came up a winner when his company signed preliminary agreements giving it the right to buy into three uranium projects controlled by Kazakhstan’s state-owned uranium agency, Kazatomprom.

The monster deal stunned the mining industry, turning an unknown shell company into one of the world’s largest uranium producers in a transaction ultimately worth tens of millions of dollars to Mr. Giustra, analysts said.

US nuclear tab at $5.8 trillion

South News July 1

Washington: In an enormous drain on resources the United States has spent $5.8 trillion on nuclear weapons according to a new study

A four-year study of newly declassified Pentagon documents, released yesterday by the Brookings Institute, looked at the expenditures of producing and deploying nuclear explosives over the past 5 1/2 decades with current spending on the arsenal at about $35 billion annually, or roughly 15 percent of the total defense budget.

Since the birth of the atomic weapons program in 1940, a total of $5.5 trillion was spent through 1996, the Washington think tank reports. That is 29 percent of all U.S. military spending and almost 11 percent of all government spending through the 52 years.

In the first comprehensive audit of the US nuclear arsenal,it calculated costs for research, development, deployment, command and control, defenses and dismantlement. The U.S. government has never attempted to track these costs, and whether the weapons helped to bring down the Soviet Union, against whom most of the arms were aimed after World War II, remains an open question, Stephen I. Schwartz, chairman of the four-year study, said in the report.

"Given the significant sums expended on nuclear weapons and their central role in the cold war, it is striking that so few have expressed an interest in either the cumulative or the annual costs,'' Schwartz wrote.

SNIP...

Highlights of the report:
    • The United States produced 70,000 nuclear warheads between 1945 and 1990, with an arsenal that peaked in the 1960s at 32,000 warheads
    • Making the warheads was relatively inexpensive. Firing, storing and handling them was extremely costly. The 70,000 warheads cost $409.4 billion, only about 7 percent of the total. But thousands of aircraft, submarines, ships, missiles, and a large network of factories, bases and personnel cost $3.241 trillion.
    • In 1996 dollars, the World War II Manhattan Project cost more than $26 billion.
    • The United States has produced 65 warhead types for 116 different weapons systems.
    • Thirteen major U.S. facilities - including Washington state's Bangor submarine base - handle and maintain nuclear weapons, and cover an area larger than Delaware, Rhode Island and the District of Columbia combined.
    • Some 6,135 strategic ballistic missiles were purchased at a cost of $266 billion, as well as 4,680 strategic bombers since World War II at a cost of $227 billion.
    • The 2,975 submarine-launched ballistic missiles alone cost $97 billion, said the report. Since their inception, the United States has designed and deployed 14 kinds of strategic bombers. Some 210 nuclear-powered military vessels have been built or are being built.
    • The figures include the estimated $7 billion costs of attempting to develop a nuclear-powered airplane, which never got off the ground.
    • At the moment, the U.S. nuclear arsenal - long-range strategic and short-range tactical - is estimated at 10,635 warheads.
    • The current stockpile has the equivalent explosive force of about 120,000 Hiroshima bombs.
    • The United States is spending an estimated $35 billion a year on nuclear weapons and related programs, the Brookings Institution says in a massive study.

http://newsmine.org/archive/cabal-elite/international-b...

Bush cashes his gold chips -
In 1986-87, at the height of the Iran-Contra controversy, the Barrick Gold Corp. acquired the Goldstrike property in Nevada for $63 million. The land, proving to hold $10 billion in gold, was the property of the U.S. government. Bush was elected President in 1988, and his administration put through a special dispensation--applied only to the Barrick Gold Corp.--to speed up the normal procedures for a mining company to take official title (``patent'') to the land.
With the Bush Goldstrike intervention, Barrick Gold shot up from insignificance, to world power status, and Bush himself climbed onboard.
President Bush's ambassador to Canada (1989-92), Edward N. Ney, had been for many years a Bush political operative and an international coordinator of Bush's ``privatized'' intelligence activities. In 1992, Ney quit as ambassador and became a director of the Barrick Gold Corp.
The following year, Brian Mulroney resigned as Canadian prime minister. Mulroney was the most unpopular Canadian politician; but, in power, he had directly aided Barrick's international ventures, and had worked closely with Bush to force through free trade agreements. Munk immediately hired the former prime minister as a Barrick step-'n'-fetchit. The approved biography explains Munk's point of view:
``Mulroney the unhappy lightning rod for the angst of a whole nation, in office and out. Munk was well aware of these feelings toward his new recruit.... After nine years trotting around the world to meet world leaders, he had incomparable access to Presidents and prime ministers in all the key spots.... Mulroney arranged the necessary access to the key decision makers. Munk was starting to salivate at the prospect of an inside track into the huge Chinese territory.''
Mulroney has been paid over $300,000 per year by Barrick.
Barrick announced in May 1995, that a new international advisory board was being assembled, under the leadership of ``honorary senior adviser'' George Bush, the former U.S. President, who, like Mulroney, had recently lost his job at the hands of the voters.
On Nov. 27, 1996, the French newspaper {Le Monde} leaked the news that Barrick had been granted a concession to prospect for gold in Zaire--a lead which prompted the present {EIR} Barrick investigation. Canadian newspapers that same day reported that Barrick Gold had convinced the government of Indonesia to award to Barrick control over the world's largest gold find, and that {George Bush and Brian Mulroney had personally done the heavy lobbying} to accomplish this.
The Indonesia deal is indeed startling. The small Canadian mining company Bre-X Minerals Ltd. had intended to develop the Busang gold mine, on East Kalimantan. Suddenly, the government announced that it demanded that Barrick Gold Corp. be cut in to a 75% ownership stake in the mine, which is estimated to hold 57 million ounces of gold, with a current estimated value over $20 billion.
{EIR} contacted Placer Dome Inc., a rival company which has been bidding for the right to develop a share of the Busang mine. A Placer Dome spokesman would make no comment on Barrick Gold, saying only, of his own firm, ``We are a gold mining company, not a political organization.''
The U.S. Republican Party, of course, has been attempting to use President Clinton's fund-raising relationship with Indonesian supporters as a scandal to break the President. Former President Bush, meanwhile, has been reportedly telling world leaders, privately, that the Clinton Presidency is destroyed; that his son, Texas Gov. George W. Bush, will be the next President, reviving the Bush dynasty; and that, therefore, leaders would be smart to work with him now.

items with the word kilometre appearing!! Ah, a meme comes up by chance alone

Interesting reason for the post of these items.

I backtracked a reader's google search to find out why them came on this blog.

Turns out they used the word "kilometres" to find this.

So I've put on a google alert to find out what stories come out with the word Kilometres in them. If someone is looking for the word "kilometres" by computer they are bound to find this blog listed now!! Of course I won't be able to tell which item they are actually looking for, but it may prove to be interesting to see which computers are set up to detect this posting and where they are from when the hit this page.

Eh, what??

The original item posted that made me notice was about Afghanistan, actually. I don't like them rebuilding that road - I don't believe for one moment it has anything to do with "rehabilitation" as not one Canadian polician or cabinet Minister is talking about rehabilitiation at this moment that I can discern.

Military keynesians: What is that and why should I care: crosspost

From Bear Republic Blog:

Yeah, what am I talking about? Well it’s like this…malcontent has his ‘invisible conspiracy’, tekstone is all about ‘The Fed’ although I can remember when it was ‘The Democrat Party’ everybody has their meme with which they want to explain what is happening in this no longer ‘Shining City on the Hill’ and why.

Well, I got one too. And in this post I will attempt to start an explanation of it and show why it’s something every American should be very, very scared about.

I was listening to Chalmers Johnson on Nice Polite Republican Radio this afternoon, Neil ‘Fascist Pimp’ Conan ‘moderator’, talk about his new book Nemesis be sure and read the comments about the reviews that’s were it gets good. In the course of his discussion with Neil, more like a whinefest on Neil’s part as he is totally a tool of the ReichWing.

Wikipedia calls Military Keynesianism is a government economic policy in which the government devotes large amounts of spending to the military in an effort to increase economic growth. Here’s a chart on the percentage of GDP which military spending generates.

Here’s a bar graph of U.S. military spending vs. the rest of the known world:

Gee…looks like we are waaaaaaaaaay out in front. But that’s not really to the point I’m making, but feel free to shut up about how important it is to protect ourselves from the Tehhahists, so let’s look at this graph from the suspect pages of the WaPo:

Hmmmmmm…… A mere 21%, that certainly doesn’t seem too much to pay to be safe from the likes of Osama bin Laden and his nuke tossing IslamoFascist gang. Does it?

But what about this bar chart!

I suppose it’s all in how you look at it. Let’s look at what the rest of the world is spending here:

clik on image for full screen view.

This doesn’t look too bad either until you dig a little deeper as malcontent always likes to do. You see and Mr. Johnson points out in his book almost 40% of the United States defense budget is ‘black’ that means no one, not Congress not you not me, knows what the dollar amounts are norwhat the money is being spent on.

For quite some time now, since the Vietnam War when my dad and all his buddies counted on working every Saturday for years at double time to rebuild the U.S. Navy jets assclowns like Senator ‘SlimeBall’ McCain wore out shooting the jungles of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos to shit, I’ve been aware that the U.S. is addicted. Addicted all right but our worst addiction is not to oil but rather…

To military spending.

The amount we will waste on The MeatGrinder is estimated by non-ReThuglican analysts to be 2 Trillion dollars. That’s enough to fix every problem our nation has with it’s infrastructure.

Enough to get started on fixing our broken healthcare system.

But let’s face it a lot of people don’t want anyone talking about this issue. Much less doing anything about it. You see it’s good for K-Street, it’s good for the Republicans, it’s good for Democrats. And stupidest of all many Americans think it’s good for them.

It’s not and here’s why. No matter what you think of the charts here and believe me it’s very curious that I couldn’t find any that were current. That is, showed any of the measures I looked at here past 2001-2003. Very curious until you understand what is going on.

The Military-Industrial Complex is running the country. Not the Republican Party, not the ‘Democrat’ Party the largest companies of those the DOD pays to build new air-superiority fighters, Stryker Combat Vehicles, the V-22 Osprey VTOL, and new air craft carriers and nuclear submarines. I’m sure Osama is laughing somewhere at the thought of this being used against him. The MI-Complex is has made itself an indispensable component of the economy . Politicians campaign on their ability to ‘bring home the bacon’. With disastrous results.

They are running the country into the ground as they loot the U.S. Treasury to produce their products. Products which do not result in economic growth. Only economic stagnation. What can you do with an Abrams M-1 Main Battle Tank. Drive it around in The MeatGrinder which is a very sandy place you see not where Abrams tanks were designed to operate then the DOD has to pay a lot of money for maintenance and parts for same. It’s a great scam and scam it is as the presence of an Abrams tank does not deter Iraqi citizens from attempting to defend their nation insurgents from attacking our brave men and women fighting for Halliburton Freedom.

But even more damaging to us and our nation is the opportunity cost the billions and billions the Federal Government, it’s not just Bush doing this it’s been building since WWII, has wasted on war equipment instead of infrastructure, education, health-care and reversing the damage done to our environment.by us and these self-same military-based industries.

This lost opportunity cost is immense. In a real sense you can make the argument that the MI complex is destroying our future as well as our freedom. And the brutal fact is that most current politicians are the creatures of the MI-complex. Indeed so brainwashed are they and much of the citizenry that the facts outlined here are deemed irrelevant to our political discourse. The ocean of cash created by the diversion of tax money from productive pursuits to an immense standing army as a famous early American warned us about is the life-giving medium which has supported and continues to support such creatures as Joe Liebermann, George H.W. Bush, Richard ‘Shooter’ Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld the and all the rest of the MI-complex’s tools.

To be continued….

The next big story AMERICAN DRUG LORDS

See the headline?

Yes, that IS what I believe, it IS the next big American press story. Still a bit under the radar, but itsa comin' - and I think fairly soon.

Those of us who have known about it all along (gee, I think I learned in 1968! at the latest, maybe it was 1967 even .. ) that things were rotten in the State of America, have often wondered when the real story would indeed surface.

I have many resentments which I try to stuff down living here in exile in Canada when (a) I never dealt a drug in my life and (b) those who thought it would be great to do away wiht me were active alcoholics and drug dealers. Catch my drift??

I"m not going to write an entire essay now, I'm going to make a passing remark on how angry I am to watch those of my generation (Baby boomer, hippie (supPOSSEDLY) types) who live very well off the suffering they caused others .. I constantly read any updates on the situation which will enlightened me on the illegal drug INDUSTRY. I support those who try desperately to end it and expose its inner workings. It, to be hyperbolic, eats our children! I try to think seven generations ahead - the first thing that needs to happen is to examine HOW TO GET OUR KIDS OFF DRUGS and take what ever steps it takes to ensure that they have a chance to live a "clean" live, have decent food to eat and clean water. and this is for all the world's children.

I admire Daniel Hopsciker very much, I adored Gary Webb (RIP Gary, I for one miss you), and I think that Mike Ruppert is onto the truth. My take.

Here is Daniel's most recent newletter - I concur wholeheartedly. The SECRETS EXPOSED meme is demanding that ALL THIS COME TO LIGHT ...

And the failures of the Iran Contra investigations and the Keane 9/11 commission will eventually have to be rectified ...

.. and I believe this fervently with all my heart.

People like me and Daniel and others who have PAID for bad policy and coverups need to be heard.

Virginia

From Daniel:

A major writer doing a book on 9/11 for a big American publishing house spent several weeks with us in Venice last month.

When he arrived he confessed a certain disbelief. How could the entire press corps miss this big a story?

When he left, after interviewing crucial eyewitnesses who told him the same things that—four years earlier—they told us, he agreed with our conclusion in "Welcome to TerrorLand" that the cover-up of the movements and activities of the terrorists in Florida is real.

We got it right. We hadn’t been making it up.

So, finally, the mainstream media will be forced to pay attention. Major newspapers in Florida, which not only ignored news coming from Venice, but were hostile to it, will be exposed, and justly held up to ridicule.

And as a direct result of what we did in Venice Florida, some of the still-secret history of the 9/11 attack will be exposed.

Someday there will be open televised Watergate-style Congressional hearings into 9/11. Key players like Rudi Dekkers, Wally Hilliard, and Pascal Schreier will finally be questioned, under oath, before the American people.

Until that day arrives, its a good feeling to know we've been useful.

And now the New News...

Today we’re deeply involved in covering, in an ongoing saga, the next big story.

Two airplanes connected to American intelligence and national security caught carrying tons cocaine—four tons in one case, 5.5 tons in the other—in Mexico.

Next month we finish shooting “American Drug Lords,” our latest documentary. And then there will be a book.

But with each passing month, travel and research expenses grow more significant., especially to a modest budget like ours.

We don't hit you up for money every month or so, or even every quarter. We don't have any pledge drives. And I hate asking for money.

Donations are something you give to the poor.

But, hey, we’re at least as valuable as public television... Just imagine what we could do with a budget like Frontline’s.

We don’t ask for your support very often. But we when do ask, we mean it.

So, please donate generously. Order books. Buy some DVD’s. Write a check. Kiss a frog...

Without your help our work would not be possible.

SECRETS REVEALED MEME: Papa Bush's medical ethnic cleanging

"Health care" for
Native American Women

This is how these people work.

They declare their noble intentions, use public money to fund them and then carry out their evil plans in broad daylight.

When the Rockefellers and their allies fret about "over-population" make no mistake, it's the "over-population" of dark skinned people that troubles them.

Between their foundations and their control of government employees and elected officials, they have little trouble carrying out their operations.

Army land coming ..

This next remark teems with facetiousness, which I do try to avoid. Yet, how else can I express my utter distain for the dirction America is going. What is on it's inside, WILL come out on the outside ..

And you, too, can hang out with the new Nazis. Do you think the Rumsfield will cut the ribbon on opening day ...?

C'mon kids, let's go to Army World!

More signs of the Pentagon encouraging worship of militarism. This is just sickening! Certainly refutes the meme that we're a Christian nation.

C'mon kids, let's go to Army World!

August 8, 2006

FORT BELVOIR, Virginia (AP) -- The Army is considering a proposal to allow a private developer to build a military-themed park that would include Cobra Gunship rides and bars including a "1st Division Lounge."

Military officials said a massive entertainment and hotel complex built next to a national Army museum could draw more than 1 million people a year. But authorities in Fairfax County are objecting because of already traffic-clogged roads surrounding the proposed site.

Universal City Property Management III, of Orlando, Florida, submitted the unsolicited proposal for the theme park last year.

"You can command the latest M-1 tank, feel the rush of a paratrooper freefall, fly a Cobra Gunship or defend your B-17 as a waist gunner," according to the proposal, which was obtained by The Washington Post.

County officials have no authority over the Army's decision because the site is federal property. County Supervisor T. Dana Kauffman said he thought the entertainment concept died last year and said he had no interest in turning a military museum into "Disney on Rolling Road."

But the army notified the county last week it is planning to move the military museum from Fort Belvoir to a site a few miles away that would be large enough for the entertainment complex.

Fired US Attorney Says Colleague Told Him Politics Was Behind His Ouster

by Marisa Taylor

WASHINGTON - A longtime protege of President Bush told former U.S. Attorney David Iglesias that he was fired for political reasons and that he shouldn’t fight his ouster, Iglesias says in a new book.0307 09

“This is political,” Iglesias recalls Texas U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton telling him shortly after he was ousted. “If I were you, I’d just go quietly.”

Iglesias, a former U.S. attorney in New Mexico, is one of nine federal prosecutors whose firings triggered a yearlong controversy at the Justice Department and led to the resignations of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and 11 other Justice Department officials.

Iglesias cites the exchange with Sutton in his upcoming book, “In Justice,” as further evidence that he was forced out because Republicans were displeased with his refusal to prosecute Democrats.

“I couldn’t believe what I was hearing: a U.S. attorney all but admitting that a colleague was being hung out to dry for reasons that had nothing to do with performance or professionalism,” he wrote in a draft of the book, which McClatchy obtained.

Sutton, who’s the top U.S. attorney in San Antonio, didn’t return phone calls Thursday seeking comment.

As a result of Iglesias’ and several other prosecutors’ accusations that they were fired in December 2006 for improper political reasons, the Justice Department turned over thousands of documents, and Congress forced top officials, including Gonzales, to testify.

No one has determined who decided which prosecutors should be fired and why. Democrats say that must mean the White House was calling the shots, while the administration has said it demonstrates that the firings were blown out of proportion.

Iglesias said he asked Sutton how he knew about his firing.

“I saw your name,” he quoted Sutton as saying.

Iglesias said in an interview that Sutton refused to elaborate, “but to have one of the most powerful U.S. attorneys tell me my firing was political was confirmation, in my view, that I was fired for the wrong reasons.”

During a congressional investigation of the firings, department e-mails revealed that Sutton was given a heads-up about the firings because he was the chairman of the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee of U.S. Attorneys.

Justice Department officials said they couldn’t comment on Iglesias’ account because of an ongoing probe of the firings by the department’s inspector general and the Office of Professional Responsibility.

“The department is cooperating with that investigation and has no further comment,” said spokesman Peter Carr.

Sutton, whose ties to Bush date back to the president’s Texas gubernatorial campaign, has been singled out himself by Republican critics who have called for his resignation. So far, he’s weathered the political storm.

The critics have accused Sutton of leading an overzealous prosecution of Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean, each sentenced to more than 10 years in prison for shooting a Mexican drug courier as he was trying to flee back to Mexico.

“The type of protection from political pressure that Johnny has gotten was the kind of protection that I thought we would get,” said Iglesias, who said he bears Sutton no ill will. “And we didn’t get it, I think largely because we didn’t have a personal relationship with the president.”

Iglesias’ book, co-authored by Davin Seay, is due out in early June.

Are we supposed to believe that this political appointee is such a naive fool that he’s shocked, shocked I tell you to learn that politics was involved?

If I remember right, all US Attorneys are to submit their resignations when a new President takes office. Certainly when the Presidency changes parties. So, I’m guessing this guy got his job in 2001 when a Democrat appointee resigned and he was appointed in their place. That’s sounds purely like politics being involved in deciding who’s the US attorney.

So, he didn’t bitch when he got his job because of politics, but he’s completely shocked, shocked I tell you, when politics forces him out of his job.

  2. normvincent March 7th, 2008 12:22 pm

This guy got his job “politically” That is the game. You want to play with the big boys, you got to learn to take it on the chin. No sympathy for this one from me.

  3. melmac78 March 7th, 2008 12:38 pm

The 2 commenters before me got it all wrong-these positions are supposed to be above the fray-you can’t have all dumb-ass cronies running eveything in the admin.

  4. sansf March 7th, 2008 12:39 pm

What early commenters here do not know or acknowledge is that it is standard for a new administration to accept resignations and appoint new attorneys general as they choose. THAT is the political part. Once appointed it is presumed that they will be left alone to do their judicial best to be be, um, fair. They can be removed, fired, for blatant acts of misconduct. They take an oath to serve US independently. Responses here illustrate that crap repeated early and often is reported as truth. No intelligent discussion. The media drove this ‘of course it is political’ meme over and over again. Our department of justice, like every federal department, has been bled to death by these sly POLITICAL tricks. When your case goes to court, or when you are arrested and wind up in court, you may rethink the ok-ness of what has been done.

I sympathize. True, the appointments are made along political lines. That’s the rule. The rule sucks, but it is a rule, and it is applied fairly for all parties. But these guys were fired in defiance of even the sucky rules. I imagine it is because they would not toe the Chaney line, which is radically farther to the right than the regular Repub line. It’s a shame. No doubt they would have opposed Chaney’s dismantling of the constitution, so they were canned. Or their jobs were offered as payment to someone else for a favor, or a fortune. Either way, it was wrong, even by sucky rule standards, and they should protest, and help the rest of us dig up the scumbag deal that is behind it.

  8. stepfour March 7th, 2008 1:30 pm

Only the president has the power to fire US Attorneys. A reasonable presumption is that the president decided which ones would have to go.

  9. josephmorton March 7th, 2008 1:34 pm

The claim that the appointees are supposed to be, or assumed to be, free of political biases is more than a bit naive. If you do not remember the sixities, look up the very apt description of the so-called “Justice Department”. Which was: “There is a town in Mississippi called liberty, and a Department in Washington called Justice.” The entire judiciary, from the Supreme Court to the lowere courts and the U.S. Attorny offices are a morass of political corruption that exceeds that of many third world countries. It is unseemely for their to be protests by someone so corrupt to accept a hachet job from the Bush administration, and then complain about admittely shoody behavior. It is the same as the soldiers who enlist to kill Arab civilians complain when they do not get adequate treatment if they are shot or when they the psychopaths can no longer take the strain and ask to be compensated for a mental problem they surely had before they enlisted in Bush’s army. Fools such as soldiers and U.S. attorney political hacks get what they deserve.

We need to get Ramos and Compean out of prison. They have been locked up for over a year for simply doing the job they were hired to do. My understanding is that each of them have been in solitary confinement for almost the entire time. This is total injustice!!!!! Let’s all contact our Congressmen/ladies and urge them to continue pursuing the release of both of these noble border agents. Let’s be sure everyone in Congress is made aware of this new information. I know that many of us believed it was true before now, but now that new evidence is surfacing new opportunities to pursue their release may be available.

The categories of legal and illegal are poor substitutes for right and wrong. It’s perfectly legal for Iglesias’ master to fire him. In his capacity as U.S. attorney, he served at the pleasure of the chief executive.

However, the chief complaint as I understand it, is not that the firing was illegal, but rather that it represents an abuse of power. Bush’s administration is rife with examples of such abuses.

I used to work as a claims adjuster for an insurance company. “We will pay what we owe,” was code for “pay whatever we can get away with.” Remember ‘fair’ is a four-letter word that begins with the letter F. This ‘..whatever we can get away with,’ ethic seems to pervade the Bush administration’s actions.

Bush’s administration tends to push the bounds of law. Bush is legally able to fire Iglesias, however, that doesn’t make his action morally questionable nor just, but it does further the case; that he is an asshole.

  12. rsliverpool March 7th, 2008 2:21 pm

I seem to recall that the white house initially claimed that the firings had to do with poor performance and nothing else. Regardless of past practice and standard operating procedures relative to these matters, the white house lied to the people again. That to me is the issue.

  13. marcsism March 7th, 2008 2:51 pm

    I agree. Damned liars.

  14. willybill March 7th, 2008 3:31 pm

Aha…Sutton..a protege of BuZh? Gee, what a surprise! Imagine the moral character of someone who has seen the Dark and aspires to make it darker. May this SOB be forever haunted by the family and friends of Ramos and Compean and may he never sleep another day of his life.

  15. GodOilPhacism March 7th, 2008 3:44 pm

Sadly, no mention of New Mexico’s, Sen. Pete Domenici and his protege, Rep. Heather Wilson and their complicency in this case. The insiders report Pete is retiring rather than face investigation. Heather is poised to take his seat, but recently was accused of vote buying at the delegate nominating convention in Bernalillo County, New Mexico. Bushies to the criminal end!

  16. wdmax3 March 7th, 2008 3:55 pm

What is really disturbing is that Bush has a protege.

Protege - a person who is guided and supported by an older and more experienced or influential person : he was an aide and protégé of the former Tennessee senator.

  17. rumiluv March 7th, 2008 4:08 pm

In an even partly just world this scandal would be enough to bring the Bush administration down.

  18. whatfools March 7th, 2008 5:28 pm

The Bush/Cheney bench packing is costing Americans three cents a stamp for eternity.

  19. pleasethink March 7th, 2008 5:45 pm

The Senate Judiciary Committee spent months and months trying to sort this out, and they were making progress in revealing the sordid links between Karl Rove’s office and Monica Goodling’s office (the White House liaison at the justice department), all of this suggesting that Rove was behind the firings of US Attorneys who were, in some cases, refusing to prosecute cases that had no credibility in order to affect elections (Rove’s piecemeal approach to carving up election districts and using micro-tactics to win each little chunk). Ultimately Harriet Myers and another White House aide were called and didn’t show up at all. They spat in the faces of Congress, claiming White House privilege. Chuck Schumer, with the help of Dianne Feinstein, had been leading the charge, but once he got Mukasey in (who isn’t sure if waterboarding is torture), he seems to have figured that everything is now “OK.” This is all BS. There has been no accountability whatsoever for what is a major scandal at the heart of the government. I blame Congress for their laissez faire attitude towards everything. All smoke and bluster and then sitting back and playing nice with this monstrous, criminal White House. The government thinks we don’t remember: we the people have a memory, damnit, and we will hold you accountable at election time!!!

  20. lizard March 7th, 2008 5:56 pm

The point is that you can change the prosecutors when you come into office, that’s ok. BUT, thereafter you cannot because it affects their independance. It’s simple and clear, really.

  22. decrepittex March 7th, 2008 6:33 pm

“David Claudio Iglesias (born 1958) is an American attorney from Albuquerque, New Mexico.[1][2]He was appointed by President George W. Bush as the United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico in August 2001 and confirmed by the U.S. Senate in October 2001.[2″

“In October 2006 (prior to the 2006 midterm election) Senator Pete Domenici called to ask about the progress of an investigation, New Mexico U.S. Attorney Iglesias said he felt this inquiry was trying to “pressure” him to speed up indictments in a federal corruption investigation that involved at least one former Democratic state senator. When Iglesias said an indictment wouldn’t be handed down until at least December, “the line went dead.” Iglesias was fired one month after the election by the Bush Administration as part of the Dismissal of U.S. attorneys controversy. Also in October, Representative Heather Wilson called about the indictments in a federal corruption investigation that involved at least one former Democratic state Senator.”[12]

Contrary to some of the above posts, he was NOT appointed by
a Democrat. He was one of George’s own but was following the
law instead of instructions from Cheney. Now that must make
it a bit more questionable. Seems like the whole thing was
because he wouldn’t speed up investigations of some Democrats so they would be indicted before the 2006 elections.

  24. SuperNova March 7th, 2008 8:15 pm

I know of at least one Civil Rights Attorney from Dallas who kept his job because he did the bidding of Karl Rove, Harriet Miers and the Bush Administration. He wrote to me in 2004 saying he was dismissing our civil rights complaint based on scientific misconduct and racial discrimination by NASA-NSF funded frauds. We thought it was strange when they kept losing the 30 page complaint which coincidentally and finally turned up only after Bush was in place for the second (fraudulent) term. It was at that time that Bush trotted out and announced a trip to the Moon and “Mars” which was all for the sole purpose of bolstering the military defense establishement. It was their reward for helping put him back in office. It was beautifully executed like clock work.

What was so funny was NASA issued filed CFR-1275, “Investigation of Research Misconduct” in October of 2003 months before Bush got re-elected just in case he didn’t make it back into office.

When fireing a U.S. attorney interferes in a case, it is illegal. Bush committed an inpeachable offense when some of the attorneys were fired, even if it was only by not stepping in to stop what was happening.
