Secrecy Shrouds Accident at Nuclear Plant

Washington - A factory that makes uranium fuel for nuclear reactors had a
spill so bad that it kept the plant closed for seven months last year and
became one of only three incidents in all of 2006 serious enough for the
Nuclear Regulatory Commission to include in an annual report to Congress.
After an investigation, the commission changed the terms of the factory's
license and said that the public had 20 days to request a hearing on the
changes.

But no member of the public ever did. In fact, no member of the public could
find out about the changes. The document describing them, including the
notice of hearing rights for anyone who felt adversely affected, was stamped
"official use only," meaning that it was not publicly accessible. "Official
use only" is a category below "Secret" and, while documents in that category
are not technically classified, they are kept from the public.

The agency would not even have told Congress which factory was involved were
it not for the efforts of one of the five commissioners, Gregory B. Jaczko,
who named the company, Nuclear Fuel Services, of Erwin, Tenn., in a memo
said that the designation as "official use only" was now under review. [What does this mean . that profitability and investment was at RISK here ..? and those considerations mean more than human lives ...?]
As laid out by the commission's report to Congress and other sources, the
event at the Nuclear Fuel Service factory was discovered when a supervisor
saw a yellow liquid dribbling under a door and into a hallway. Workers had
previously described a yellow liquid in a "glove box," a sealed container
with gloves built into the sides to allow a technician to manipulate objects
inside, but managers had decided that it was ordinary uranium.

In fact, it was highly enriched uranium that had been declared surplus from
the weapons inventory of the Energy Department and sent to the plant to be
diluted to a strength appropriate for a civilian reactor. The factory is
under contract to prepare such uranium for the Tennessee Valley Authority.

In a puddle, the uranium is not particularly hazardous, but if it formed a
more spherical shape, according to the commission, it could become a
"critical mass," a quantity of nuclear fuel sufficient to sustain a chain
reaction, in this case outside a reactor. According to the letter sent by
the lawmakers, the puddle, containing about nine gallons, reached to within
four feet of an elevator pit. The letter from the congressmen says the agency's report suggests "that it was merely a matter of luck that a criticality accident did not occur."

If the material had gone critical, "it is likely that at least one worker
would have received an exposure high enough to cause acute health effects or
death," the commission said. A spokesman for the company, Tony Treadway,
said the elevator was better described as a dumbwaiter, meaning it was far
smaller than a passenger elevator.

Almost anywhere else, the commission would have disclosed the details. But
in 2004, according to the committee's letter, the Office of Naval Reactors, part of the Energy Department, reached an agreement with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission that any correspondence with Nuclear Fuel Serviceswould be marked "official use only." No new date set for 'mushroom cloud' blast in Nevada desert

LAS VEGAS (AP) - No new date was set Thursday for a proposed non-nuclear explosion that authorities have said would send a mushroom-shaped dust cloud high over the Nevada desert.
"At this point, there is no explosion authorized," Justice Department lawyer Carolyn Blanco in Washington, D.C., said during a conference call court hearing with U.S. District Judge Lloyd George in Las Vegas.
Blanco repeated an assurance she made during a hearing in October that the so-called "Divine Strake" test won't take place at least until next year.
The judge set another hearing for Feb. 1 after Blanco said she could not promise 60 days' notice before the blast would occur.
The federal Defense Threat Reduction Agency has called its plan to detonate a 700-ton ammonium nitrate and fuel oil bomb at the Nevada Test Site important for gathering data about penetrating hardened and deeply buried targets.
Critics have called the test a surrogate for a low-yield nuclear "bunker-buster" bomb, and expressed fears that it would scatter contaminated material left from 928 atmospheric and below-ground nuclear weapons tests conducted at the vast Nevada Test Site from 1951 to 1992.
The explosion, first scheduled June 2, was postponed indefinitely after Western Shoshone tribe members and "downwinders" in Utah and Nevada filed suit and Utah congressional representatives joined in questioning its safety.
The blast would involve 280 times more of the same material as the bomb that destroyed the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City in 1995.
The Defense Threat Reduction Agency has said it would consider other locations and ways of conducting the experiment. No new plans were outlined Thursday.
Blanco said the agency was revising environmental studies that would be circulated for public comment before a new date was set.

Lesson: If a controller gets his way, he'll be extremely content. If you make it a bit harder for him, he'll push back even harder and probably bite you. Their plan is to start a war "with the aliens" .. either by simulation or for real. The last ditch effort to get total CONTROL. The Sr. military people in the US are coming out against them in DROVES out of fear for their own families. This month a "drill" is to be run to see how well their expertise at directing everything goes (just as at the time of 9/11). It is scheduled for the day that Divine Strake was "supposed" to happen. Will Divine Strake happen .. or something like it? These freaks are capable of nearly ANYTHING. They've conned the US citizens into paying TRILLIONS to keep the system going .. the military/industrial complex is truly, truly terrifying. I think all along they have strung out Bush as the focal point; it diverts people from the REAL enemy. People like Barbara Ehrenreich are now identifying it -- but even she doesn't realize what she is up against. YET.

What is scary is that -- even though the sheeple won't "fall for it", what they have in place now is so very very dastardly. I have looked at exactly what the trilateral commission is up to, The most "prestigious" anti biochemical warfare and nuclear warfare committee has Putin, Spanish royalty, all sorts of odds and sods -- including population control Warren Buffet as an advisor. These psychopaths have not played with their new star wars toys!! Putin has the equivalent of HAARP and GOD KNOWS what he is up to with it. The DOD "claims" they aren't using HAARP, but with the ruling class Russkys still controlling the atmosphere who knows where everything will end up ...?

How about using Russians and Chinese to keep power. As COMMUNISTS, they have no spiritual "pretensions" at all. The Russians are CROOKS and have been caught running fraud after fraud up here in Canada. The Chinese don't want their children to be children. They understand nothing at all about psychology or what makes people tick. It's ALL about money. So the Ruling Class knows how to find another set of people to become sheeple very, very easily.

So, my conclusion is, the real ruling class can sacrifice Bush easily and would have done so long ago. Even daddy is fed up with Dubya and is trying to replace him with Jeb. (god help us!) The wildcard is that RUMMY knows way, way, way too much. He looks more like a rat daily. Watch his eyes on television. UGH.

The US needs to nail down Mexican and Canadian cooperation. They must have made SURE Paul Martin lost the election. Harper grows more smug by the day -- and his psychopathology is showing.

Nixon sat in office for months while deranged .. so it will be with Bush. But he is sandbaggged. The demoRATS have done nothing to get him to TRIAL. They hope that Cinderella woman Hilary will bail them out. Right.

I'll make one bet though. We are going to see a pullout of Iraq timetable very, very soon. One they can all agree on -- dems and repugs. And it will be FAST before any more horror stories emerge about genocide. The EU action must have caught them by surprise -- to refuse to identify plane passengers to the US. They cannot BAN European airlines from flying into the US! as a retaliatory measure.

The other thing to watch is how the UN gets pulled into being a relief organization and have no more "peacekeeping" troops. That is based on pure astrology. The Ruling Class counts on the UN to do its dirty work. Dag was a severe inconvenience and they killed him. And for years the UN has done the bidding of the rich and powerful. But as the planet goes down the tube, they won't have any operating funds if they don't clean up places like Indonesia. The web bot project is RIGHT ON.

The explosion will take place only 1.1 miles from previous nuclear tests.

In March, the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination ruled that the Shoshone Indians were the rightful owners of the land where the bomb testing is to be held. They ordered Washington to discontinue Divine Strake. The Bush administration has ignored the UN's decision.

The administration developed Divine Strake after Congress refused to fund nuclear-tipped bunker-busting bombs proposed by the Pentagon. The purpose is to simulate a "low-yield nuclear weapon ground shock" to find the lowest nuclear yield required to destroy the "carefully chosen" targets that "simulate the characteristics of important potential global adversaries" - specifically, Iran's underground uranium enrichment facilities.

Shoshone Elder Corbin Harney said, "The Western Shoshone Nation made a treaty with the U.S. Government. I do not approve of any kind of bomb being detonated in or on Western Shoshone lands. Let's not let this continue. We must think of younger generations. We only have one earth that we live on, one water we drink and one air we breathe." clip..
