I'm okay, you need to be transformed

Who would have thought that Arianna Huffington and I spent our weekends in similar pursuits? Although admittedly the cars, houses and wardrobes probably differed. In her recent post on HuffPo, Ms. Huff enumerates the error of Senator Obama's ways in attempting to make himself more palatable to the mainstream voter or as she so eloquently puts it

Memo to Obama: Moving to the Middle is for Losers .

Now I admire Ms. Huff. She has an M. A. in Economics from Cambridge and has built HuffPo into a multi-million dollars blog all while being an extremely attractive, articulate and sometimes funny woman. I on the other hand took 20 years to graduate from the University of Tennessee and lost my home to foreclosure. Also, when it comes to specific qualifications for writing the afore linked to blog post, AH has been a two time loser in politics as well as totally shedding her political skin to find new life as the Queen of the Far Left. Neither of which should be held against her. The best lessons learned in life are often gleaned from loss and I myself am currently undergoing a political molting.

As for her advice to Senator Obama - how is it that so many politically astute people were unable to see until now that there is nothing - absolutely nothing - different about Senator Obama other than the color of his skin? To be honest, though, I can imagine their disappointment in finding that he is you average (well not average, he is a damn spot smarter than most pols) politician - no better, no worse. I have to admit that I'm a little disappointed myself in how quickly he has turned on his transformational self and I knew all along that he would. Throughout the campaign he has been less a candidate and more of a mannequin on which one could hang the clothes in one's own closet. Anyway, that's for Senator Obama, his handlers and his disciples to discuss - the fish I'm frying concerns is the disdain on which Ms. Huff and so many "progressives" hold the center of American politics.

I agree with AH that one should not heave ho bedrock principles in order to pander to the electorate yet I am puzzled. Do Ms. Huff and her far left cohorts not realize that many of the people that they say they want to help with their "progressive" agenda are the same people she holds in such low regard? She writes of a Midwest devastated by economic changes and yet she speaks of the 46% of them who found the charges of the Swift Boaters credible. Does she not know that many of these voters are one in the same? Devastated by economic changes and vulnerable to diversionary 527 ads? Am I reading her post correctly when I find that she would have Senator Obama just write these people off his list? When the Senator's adherents speak of his transforming the country, leading us all to the post partisan promised land, do they mean that only those who disagree with him need to be transformed, that only those who are drink from the cup of Obama will be allowed to cross over into the political Land of Canaan? All this time I thought all of us were in need of some kind of transformation, that post partisan meant getting beyond being on the left or on the right.

As a daughter of the South, I grew up hearing the admonition that certain types of behavior were "unbecoming". Being sullen was unbecoming, being catty was unbecoming. Well, I find the idea that anyone to the right of Arianna Huffington is unworthy of being dealt with is unbecoming the Democratic Party, just as I found the idea that anyone to the left of George Bush was a looney liberal unbecoming to the Republican Party. I'm no fan of Senator Obama. Over the weekend I had a discussion with my son about how BO has changed his position on as many issues in the last week as John McCain has since 2000. Still, I do think that one has to be elected and to govern not as the President of one segment of the population but as the President of all the people; that may not be progressive but it is politics and politics to paraphrase John Buchan is still amongst the best and most honorable professions.

The sheClinton is falling from her self-imposed IMPERIAL pedestal.

What happened? She's the new Woman of the Day for the mainstream media and for WALL STREET. Woman with an eye to seeing a woman in the White House, a leader of the alleged Free World, were so intent on seeing HiLIARy come to POWER, that she could do no wrong for many months.

Hillary may not be the politician that her husband is but she does have access to his direction, and people seemed to like the two-for-one aspect of the joint chiefs of the Executive Branch of the US government. It seemed like MUKANS could go to bed at night and get a good night's REST knowing that those two would avert any nuclear crisis, keep the troops morale up, handle the crisis-riddent medical/insurance system which is bankrupting millions, keep the roofs over their heads as the mortgage crisis grinds down everyone to silly, ensure their kidz got a good education, not spend MORE than George W, Buzh, get those terrorists bitchslapped back into line at a moment's notice, make nice to Zionist and arab sheiks alike, eat Chinese food with the top Chinese officials without slobbering while keeping the lead out of the toys,

You know, restore a little FDR fervor to the White House, while making the rest of the world think AMERICA was somehow back on track. WoW! SUPERWOMAN! Supermom! Superlawyer! Superdiplomat! Super-reformer! and she wears her plastic surgery so WELL, too.

In hindsight to those not in the know, Bill Clinton looks like a popular president. He was well educated. He was SLICK.

His huge economic blunders on behalf of "America" lay buried under worries people had about college tuition fees and CONSUMING. He had plenty of time to come up with an alternative energy plan for the US, but that lack of enduring environmentalism bothered no one; no one even put proper insulation into their homes, although his VP, Al Gore, had ample opportunity to help him out on this. Instead they set up consultancies in computer sales to the Chinese who know hack America's defense secrets and figure out ways that the team can make money off everyone trading carbon credits. But Hills and Billy keep on being The Couple.

He had the ever-faithful HiLIARy to rely on when his critics attacked him for his "indiscretions" as well as his lies. THEY played well to the Audience. They had choices which they blew to make America a better place but instead America was given Waco, Ruby Ridge, the attacks on honestly recovering drug addicts .fostering an outlandish attack on citizens known as the War on Drugs.

Sounds like their simple yet complicated life as a married couple could make people feel some identification as their common goal of raising a daughter, maintaining their power dreams and residences and electabllity would carry them through. Hillary's coronation as IMPERIUM QUEEN had been planned for over two decades. Now, that appears to be DEDICATION, doesn't it?

Ah, but the best-laid plans often come to NAUGHT.

Her bid for the throne has been shown to have WEAKNESS, which is not so cool if you campaign, not as a concerned wife and mother, but as an ICON of the Big Boys, the rough tough MURKAN Big Boys. She simply does not have the Oval Office experience. She has SECOND HAND power lust. Claiming that she can stump up the contacts to make her win her bid is not working out for her. She's just a fly on the wall in the White House, not the POWER.

The US executive class women who could SO easily get behind the sheClinton are not doing that. She takes questionable donations (Norman Hsui, Chinese busboys are bamboozled into contributing), but her Natural Audience goes begging. Where are the spiels to Rotary Club women, to Mothers Against Drunk Drivers? Woman executives in local governments? Women in Hollyweird? To women lawyers, for god's sake?? The picture of the male peacock has been criticized - but isn't that the role she decided to play??

Blessed with intelligence, she doesn't appear to be using it. She's run her campaign as if she was The Nominee -- everyone one else was merely playing their roles as Good Little Subjects - yet time and again, The Queenly touch has failed to touch love in their hearts of her minions

Unlike the Queen of England (or some other Crown state), she's gotten herself in HOT WATER. She's used America's military might to place an IMPERIAL Supreme Commander's hat, rather than wearing a crown of DECENCY.

She misses her cues . and the brittle face of authentic MURKAN authoritarianism and baffling COLDNESS comes to the fore, in place of HONEST ANSWERS. She waffles, she ducks, she votes for the wrong damned bills like the Kyl-Leiberman amendment, which threatens us all with WWIII implications!! The Queen hands out more wiretaps, more torture of foreigners, voting in an Attorney General who thinks WATERBOARDING is okay -- even IF it's not a tactic that elicits true information from a US detainee. She goes along with TORTURE.

As I've shown, she thinks she should be running any manner of things right down to the videogames, rather than relying on the Justice Department. Yesterday she got annoyed at OBVIOUS cronyISM in the Department of Homeland Security, but she voted for the Patriot Act.

For someone who graduated from law school, she doesn't seem to understand the US Constitution or know how to read case law on US Citizen's RIGHTS.

And this just highlights the difficulties she would have running the biggest military in the world, the biggest EMPIRE in the world, shouting out her message of FREEDOM around the world, and commanding respect. She isn't liked much anymore and certainly the respect is slipping by the day. Her experience packing lunches for Bill while he was President isn't standing her in stead as she tries to create her image.

Who is she running AGAINST? The Democrats or George BuZh? The American people?

The field of support she has is looking more threadbare by the day. Her campaigners make enemies at the debates and at political rallies as they elbow their way around and try to prevent other campaigners from having any ground to stand on. She's been accused of PLANTING proHilary forces in the stands .. this doesn't look too good for future leadership; if she were SECURE why would she be doing this ridiculously immature behavior and not trusting in her message? Because there is no message except this

I AM HILLARY! ELECT ME!

The people are quickly getting fed up. With a campaign strategy that thin, who wants her running the WORLD? BuZh may be mesmerized, but WE are not.

Whatever base of enthusiasm in a base she COULD have built up is quickly drifting away ... the moms, the executive-class woman who hit the glass ceiling, the would be academic, the lawyer in a mid-sized law firm aghast she cannot be made partner - to them she doesn't offer much of a HOPE at all.

The women journalists who might have been her BIGGEST fans of all, are not defending her nor writing those WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONderfulling articles about her High Highness expected to see.

The peacock feathers of being Bill's wife, just couldn't hold the attention of those who are now looking at her feet.

And the funeral notices beginning to pour in ...

I could not care less.

Hillary Clinton: Senator Clinton Calls for Investigation of Homeland Security Contractor Bonuses

November 26, 2007 -- Washington, DC – Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton today called on the Inspector General of the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to expand an investigation of federal contracting practices to investigate the practice of award fees by DHS, especially when it comes to no-bid contracts.

Senator Clinton’s call comes in light of a recent report by DHS Inspector General Richard Skinner that DHS improperly awarded a $475 million no-bid contract to Chenega Technology Services Corporation, which according to the report “likely did not provide the government the best value” and that DHS "did not comply with federal regulations".

According to the IG’s office, the agency also provided award fees to the company as part of its contract. In calling for the investigation, Senator Clinton underscored that despite federal law requiring DHS to link award fees with successful acquisition outcomes, there have been a number of reports of DHS providing award fees regardless of performance.

“This disconnect between performance and award fees appears to be part of a troubling pattern,” said Senator Clinton. “In too many cases, DHS appears to be awarding bonuses without evaluating work or, even worse, despite poor performance. Failing contractors should be rooted out not rewarded.”

The following is Senator Clinton’s letter to DHS Inspector General Richard L. Skinner requesting an investigation:

Dear Mr. Skinner:

I write regarding a disturbing report you issued last month that raises serious questions about contracting practices at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The report – Customs and Border Protection Award and Oversight of Alaska Native Corporation Contract for Enforcement Equipment Maintenance and Field Operations Support (OIG-08-10) – details how DHS improperly awarded a $475 million, no-bid contract to Chenega Technology Services Corporation to maintain X-ray, radiation and other screening machines at U.S. border checkpoints. Your report concludes the contract “award likely did not provide the government the best value” and that DHS "did not comply with federal regulations."

Additionally, your staff informs me that award fees were given to Chenega as a part of its contract with DHS. Given that your report did not focus on award fees to Chenega, the details of these fees are unclear. However, taken together with your conclusion that the Department improperly awarded the underlying contract to Chenega, it is disturbing to hear that DHS has provided an award fee to this corporation.

This disconnect between performance and award fees appears to be part of a troubling pattern. The Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) state clearly that cost-based award fee contracts are intended to motivate excellent contractor performance in areas such as quality, timeliness, technical ingenuity, and cost-effective management. Despite this guidance, during the course of the past several years there have been a number of reports documenting how award fees are being doled out by DHS to contractors regardless of performance:

• Evaluation of TSA’s contract for the installation and maintenance of explosive detection equipment at United States Airports (DHS Inspector General, September 2004) – TSA awarded a contract to Boeing for the installation and maintenance of explosive detection equipment at airports. TSA paid more than $44 million to Boeing without any evaluation of Boeing’s performance.

• Transportation Security Administration Review of the TSA Passenger and Baggage Screening Pilot Program (DHS Inspector General, September 2004) – TSA awarded four pilot program contracts to determine whether private companies could provide and maintain passenger screening performance at levels equal to or greater than the TSA screener force. The Inspector General found the award fee determinations lacked performance criteria, were highly subjective and based primarily on contractor self-assessments and input from TSA officials.

• Observations on the Department of Homeland Security’s Acquisition Organization and on the Coast Guard’s Deepwater Program (GAO-07-453T) (February 8, 2007) – GAO found that despite documented problems in schedule, performance, cost control, and contract administration throughout the first year of the Deepwater contract, the contractor had received a rating of 87 percent, which fell in the “very good” range and resulted in an award fee of $4 million.

In too many cases, DHS appears to be awarding bonuses despite poor performance, or worse, without even evaluating work. Failing contractors should be rooted out, not rewarded. Given your report of what appears to be noncompliant federal contracting practices on the part of the DHS and a pattern of providing award fees to contractors without justification, I request that you expand your investigation into the practice of award fees by the Department, especially when it comes to no-bid contacts. Specifically, I would ask that your investigation review the following questions:

• Section 3501 of the U.S. Troop Readiness, Veterans’ Care, Katrina Recovery, and Iraq Accountability Appropriations Act, 2007 (P.L. 110-28) states, “The Secretary of Homeland Security shall require that all contracts of the Department of Homeland Security that provide award fees link such fees to successful acquisition outcomes (which outcomes shall be specified in terms of cost, schedule, and performance).” DHS has engaged in a number of contracts in Fiscal Year 2007. How many of these contracts included award fees and were these award fees based on successful acquisition outcomes? What was the total amount of these award fees?

• Did the Department of Homeland Security violate P.L. 110-28 in providing award fees to contractors Fiscal Year 2007?

• Were award fees given to Chenega Technology Services Corporation justified and based on successful acquisition outcomes?

• What mechanisms are currently in place at DHS to ensure that award fees are awarded in a proper manner? Are these mechanisms enforced in providing award fees for DHS contracts? What can the Department of Homeland Security do to ensure that award fees are justified and based on successful acquisition outcomes?

The oldest Christmas card

All I want for Christmas Is hope

Some people hate the movie "Bad Santa," starring Billy Bob Thornton. I understand. But, sadly, it serves a purpose for other people who have been forced to need a reason to laugh at Christmas.

The film is pretty raunchy in spots (but hilarious, nonetheless). I can see where some people would think the film executes a broadside hit on Christmas in a mean-spirited way, with the intent presumably of tearing down the wholesome family fun to be enjoyed by children and their parents and guardians at Christmastime. I was one of those people who resented the negativism this film seemed to be promoting, thinking very little is sacred anymore, until I saw the movie last year, and gave it and the trappings of Christmas some renewed serious thought.
I thought about this film in light of other films, horror films, which opened on Christmas Day last year, one of which had “Christmas” in its title. From the previews I saw, this black Christmas movie made "Bad Santa" by comparison look like "Babes in Toyland." There are people who are good people, in my opinion, who have surprised me recently by saying they have come to dread Christmas. There have always been an inordinate number of suicides at Christmas and Thanksgiving, which psychologists attribute to the “Holiday Blues” and those people who long for the family togetherness and extravagant fun which they once had but no longer have or have never had.

Whenever I note the corruption of good things, like Christmas, which in my childhood was giddily wholesome, wrapped in pretty paper and adorned with glitter and tinsel, I can’t help but imagine that someone somewhere is behind the corruption and destruction, and is as giddy that Christmas has been taking some pretty severe hits in recent years. And, nowadays, we’re hearing and reading about these nihilistic behind-the-scenes secret societies and shadow governments comprised of the outrageously rich and powerful men (“boners,” an appropriate term) who hate the thought of poor people having babies, which only “robs” from those who believe they have worked hard to earn their money and ought to be able to keep all it, even if the IRS says otherwise. That’s not to say that tax money has ever gone to help the poor to the degree that it should and could.

At present, there are fewer and fewer government programs in place to help the poor (with welfare all but stripped away, thanks in part to pseudo-Democrat Bill Clinton, who apparently has clearly lied, without admitting it to himself, presumably, when he has said he “feels the pain” of others; he is, of course, one of the ignoble globalists), but we do have (oh boy!) the faith-based non-profit operations, which I know for a fact, in cases of which I am aware, are nothing more than operations run by hawkish do-gooders who are really only concerned with creating, not relief programs for the poor, but a stronger conservative base and anti-abortion programs . . . to keep a lid on more of the nasty little lives they refuse to help.

Further digressing (but not really) . . . have you ever thought about the fact that the right wing hates abortion, and demands right-to-life legislation, but thinks nothing of funding wars which have killed tens of thousands of children in Iraq and Afghanistan, something which administration officials no longer can deny? Of course you have. Or that special kangaroo-court session of Congress which was called to pass “right-to-life, brain-dead” legislation in the midst of the Terry Schiavo circus, as you may recall, despite the fact that doctor after doctor (and this was later confirmed in the autopsy reports) said virtually no brain activity existed in the poor woman? She had no cognition of anything that was going on, false advocates included. Keeping her alive was mocking life, in my opinion, disregarding what life ought to be, and in effect refuting the idea of heaven and the rewards for the innocents that await after death. Still, it seemed distasteful to let her starve. But the doctors knew best. Politicians had no business involving themselves in the matter, especially not in special session, and making a political football out of the whole sordid affair.

What ghoulish hypocrites these right-wing congressmen revealed themselves to be. And still are. How does such personal deceit and impropriety go undetected and unchecked by so many of these aristocrats when it occurs within their own very much alive brains and souls?
My point: The good things in life have been and are continuing to be corrupted not so much by the average citizen . . . but by congressional representatives and senators who believe doing good things for their constituents are best measured by whether their efforts aid these men to keep their powerful, well-paying, isolated political positions. Politics and its distortions of the law, by lawyers and people who claim to stand for “lawfulness,” have ruined our society, every society. Absolute power does corrupt absolutely, even as the corrupters believe they are doing good for the people they are hurting. As this form of delusion has settled in in Washington, it has pushed us all toward inside-out corruption and destruction. Who among us can be blamed if we don’t see society in the nuclear age winding down to some sort of climactic end, when the corrupt oppressors will finally get theirs and we can be free of bad systems being run by bad people.

So, what does all of this have to do with "Bad Santa"? Everything (more or less). The oppressed who can’t afford Christmas anymore, if they have ever known the joy of feasts and gift-giving the holiday can bring at all, have fomented the cynicism and skepticism in our society which only help to bring about its disintegration. Slap-happy films which offer a new twist on a holiday which has become consumeristic to the point of often being gaudy and poor taste are, sadly, breaths of fresh air for some people -- because increasingly only the superficial well-to-do, with shelters and new tax cuts, can celebrate the holiday adequately without having to wipe out household budgets.

Sadly, films like "Bad Santa" give the cynics of necessity some outlet, a way to laugh at their pain, which may be just what some people need to get past the holiday blues. Holiday commercials on TV, the radio and Internet, and the false, empty promises and messages they bring us -- which is mostly the nature of advertising that must sell goods at all costs for the system to survive -- may have the most chilling effect of all. Who can rely on the Word being made flesh, or the holy written words, for those who have the time to read it and be communicated to by it, if we now question all or so many of our other institutions and the messages they strategically hit us with to the point of hating them?

I despise political America, which helps me, when and if it does, in spite of itself. I draw a military pension to which I am entitled. But for how long? As long as it takes for a corrupt administration to say, “Oops, we lost your records on a laptop, and, therefore, identity thieves (meaning the administration itself) are getting your pension, which we’ll be spending on more of the militarism which put you, a draftee during the Vietnam-war era, in the upside down position in which you and your brothers find yourselves.”

The reports of stolen computerized records that have become commonplace, in my view, are smokescreens, false warnings given to the press by the government and the corporatocracy for preparing vets like me -- who couldn’t find a job if we could work in one adequately -- for going without. These people don’t just resent the poor which they have helped to create, they are declaring war on them, with home foreclosures growing to ridiculous numbers, in the aftermath of laws passed in recent years to remove the options of declaring bankruptcy. The creditors, in bed with these truly bad Santas, are playing hardball, and Christmas, which capitalism has ruined, is becoming a hated proposition for more and more people, who are too disillusioned to celebrate much of anything.

And these bad Santas, who are Grinches in disguise, want to take this show globally. May God help the globe. May God save the earth, for which the ancient promise of peace and goodwill toward men is only slipping further and further away.

I used to watch "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens on TV and be glad that our society, because of coldly Victorian reminders like this one, was not filled with callous men like Scrooge. I never envisioned in my naive youth that there could be any potential Scrooges who would not be brought to their senses by these Christmas sentiments, and who, therefore, would not give a second thought to the benefits of letting “the surplus population” wither and die on the vine. Such evil no longer existed, I assumed.

Now, I know better.

Surely, the earth will be reborn one day, perhaps sooner than later -- I don't think that is pie in the sky, as long as we're all going to die one day and hopefully be reborn. Then the oppressors will be removed from our midst, and we can have a real world government of justice, righteousness and peace delivered to us by the one whose birth and rebirth all people of all nations, races and religious persuasions will be able to celebrate once more without feeling guilty or being worried that the Christmas turkey and all the trimmings aren’t going to make purchasing groceries in the new year a burden.

A reason to hope is all that some people want at Christmastime. The freedom to celebrate festivals and feasts without fear and dread, as the good Lord surely intended holy days honoring him to be observed, is the blessed hope I wish for my family and yours.

Her bid for the throne has been shown to have WEAKNESS, which is not so cool if you campaign, not as a concerned wife and mother, but as an ICON of the Big Boys, the rough tough MURKAN Big Boys. She simply does not have the Oval Office experience. She has SECOND HAND power lust. Claiming that she can stump up the contacts to make her win her bid is not working out for her. She's just a fly on the wall in the White House, not the POWER.

The US executive class women who could SO easily get behind the sheClinton are not doing that. She takes questionable donations (Norman Hsui, Chinese busboys are bamboozled into contributing), but her Natural Audience goes begging. Where are the spiels to Rotary Club women, to Mothers Against Drunk Drivers? Woman executives in local governments? Women in Hollyweird? To women lawyers, for god's sake??

Blessed with intelligence, she doesn't appear to be using it. She's run her campaign as if she was The Nominee -- everyone one else was merely playing their roles as Good Little Subjects - yet time and again, The Queenly touch has failed to touch love in their hearts of her minions

Unlike the Queen of England (or some other Crown state), she's gotten herself in HOT WATER.

She misses her cues . and the brittle face of authentic MURKAN authoritarianism and baffling COLDNESS comes to the fore, in place of HONEST ANSWERS. She waffles, she ducks, she votes for the wrong damned bills like the Kyl-Leiberman amendment, which threatens us all with WWIII implications!! The Queen hands out more wiretaps, more torture of foreigners, voting in an Attorney General who thinks WATERBOARDING is okay -- even IF it's not a tactic that elicits true information from a US detainee. She goes along with TORTURE.

As I've shown, she thinks she should be running any manner of things right down to the videogames, rather than relying on the Justice Department.

For someone who graduated from law school, she doesn't seem to understand the US Constitution or know how to read case law on US Citizen's RIGHTS.

And this just highlights the difficulties she would have running the biggest military in the world, the biggest EMPIRE in the world, shouting out her message of FREEDOM around the world, and commanding respect. She isn't liked much anymore and certainly the respect is slipping by the day. Her experience packing lunches for Bill while he was President isn't standing her in stead as she tries to create her image.

Who is she running AGAINST? The Democrats or George BuZh? The American people?

The field of support she has is looking more threadbare by the day. Her campaigners make enemies at the debates and at political rallies as they elbow their way around and try to prevent other campaigners from having any ground to stand on. She's been accused of PLANTING proHilary forces in the stands .. this doesn't look too good for future leadership; if she were SECURE why would she be doing this ridiculously immature behavior and not trusting in her message? Because there is no message except this

I AM HILLARY! ELECT ME!

The people are quickly getting fed up. With a campaign strategy that thin, who wants her running the WORLD? BuZh may be mesmerized, but WE are not.

Whatever base of enthusiasm she COULD have built up is quickly drifting away ... the moms, the executive-class woman who hit the glass ceiling, the would be academic, the lawyer in a mid-sized law firm - to them she doesn't offer much of a HOPE at all.

The women journalists who might have been her BIGGEST fans of all, are not defending her nor writing those WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONderfulling articles about her High Highness expected to see.

The peacock feathers of being Bill's wife, just couldn't hold the attention of those who are now looking at her feet.

And the funeral notices beginning to pour in ...

I could not care less.
